Hi, I guess I will just jump right in, My name is Janet and I am Mommy to 3 girls, Nicole who is 11, Taylor 9, and Jacqueline 17mos.
Taylor has ADHD and has been on Concerta since Augusy, she has always had problems in school and I fought to get testing done, she is even repeating 2nd grade, we thought it would help, it has not, I had a conference with her teacher yesterday and it is not helping even with repeating she is still falling so far behind, her teacher is going to fight to get her into a smaller size class, we should have a meeting with the principal soon.
It is just so frustrating to see her struggle every single day. She loves school and loves life but I can see how if something is not done soon she will start to really hate school, she thinks she is dumb and i have tried my hardest to reassure her that she is smart.
Anyway, that is my story and i cannot wait to get to know everyone.
Janet

Janet !! Its good to see you here... and thankyou for the introduction to your family ... I am sorry though that Concerta hasn't been helping Taylor ... and I am keeping my fingers crossed that she DOES get into a smaller sized class ... I think this too can help a LOT ... I have a 16 year old son (who will be 17 in 3 months time) and I must admit that school really depleted his self-esteem over the years .... We have been lucky I think because that self-esteem has been "won back" in the past couple of years ... but I am right behind you to fight for Taylor to make sure this self-esteem flattening does NOT happen to her! ... I am really looking forward to seeing you around the board!!

:)Janet! Welcome to the family! It is important to follow through with the doctor too. There are many different meds to use for our kids, one will work for one kid, and not for another kid. There are also kids who don't do well on any meds, but will thrive on a diet modification or a natural alternative! Your best tool to help Taylor, is to educate yourself. That is what we do best here. We teach, we learn, we cry, we laugh, and we vent our frustrations! It's nice to have a new shoulder in the crowd!

Hi Janet, I am new here too. I was just reading AnneM's response and have to say the same is true of my son Jordan, school and other frustrations have really been a blow to his self-esteem. It is sad that kids are treated like cookie cutters at schools instead of the individuals they are. I think my son has a harder time too because his sister has NO problems at school, she is in TAG and just excells at school with very little effort. It causes a lot of problems between the two of them without him even really realizing it I think. I hope that you find what works for you and your child.

Hi and welcome Janet. School seems like a big trouble spot for alot of us. I'm always telling mine if it ever gets to much, let me know and I'll homeschool. So far he prefers to stay in school.
