Hello. I joined last week when I found out about these boards from some homeschool boards I frequent. I posted a question about Concerta, then left for a weekend trip! Sorry about that. I do want to thank those who answered my question, and welcomed me. I'm KC, and live in Central Florida with ds, 7.5, dh, two cats and a 10 month old Sheltie (who drives the ornery cat crazy). Ds has ADHD, combined type. We had him diagnosed 2 years ago. I had a nagging suspicion in the back of my mind for a long time, and as he got older, I really started seeing the differences between him and his peers. I kept telling myself it's because he's a boy, it's his age, he's the only child of older parents, etc. But when he got in trouble at an event and told me "I try to behave and do what I'm supposed to, but my body just won't let me", I knew I had to help him. It broke my heart. I knew too, that since we were planning to homeschool, there wouldn't be a teacher who would catch it and suggest we have him tested. If we were going to find out, we'd have to initiate the process. He was on Ritalin at first, then went to Ritalin LA. He was also on Straterra for a year. I desperately wanted a 24/7 non-stimulant to work, so I kept telling myself it was working. Dh on the other hand kept asking if I gave him his medicine! We went back to Ritlain LA, which worked well but didn't last as long as it was supposed to . Just last week at his ADD recheck, the dr. suggested we try Concerta. I took a chance and tried it on a Cub Scout camping trip, and it was wonderful! Not too much, not too little, and lasted 12 hours. I hope this is the answer for us. I guess that's all. I look forward to becoming a member of this community. KC

:)KC and a big welcome to you. We have a great onlie-family in here, support, venting and fun all together I´ll keep my finger´s grossed for your med trial, concerta has worked wonder´s for my ds9. This place is full of understanding of your situation, we all know how it is to have adhd in family. Florida sound´s like a nice place to be right now, our cold front is still in here, , now it´s "high" 8 degrees of Celcius I cant wait the summer....

Floridamom! Welcome from a Georgia neighbor! I wish you continued luck with the Concerta. My dd took Strat for a while too because I was also really wanting a 24 hour med for her...but she eventually went right back to Ritalin LA. Hope you found yourself a new home here.... we are a nutty bunch but we are always here when needed. Hope to see you around some more!
