;D I am so happy I found this site!!! I have been looking for one all day!
A few things about myself: I have 2 daughters ages 5 1/2 and 2 1/2
Liz my older daughter went to the psychologist that deals with children with ADHD well he said she has ADHD! I have known somthing was going on with her and known this for about 2 years now.
At age 4 I went to her doc and was telling everything that was going on he put her on meds I never gave them too her thought she was to young and was scared.
Now things have goten so much worse! She never runs out of gas, she is on full all the time! Running , screaming Jumping climbing on my things breaking things due to being so hyper!
So they are going to put her on meds again I am scared, But I cant take much more and it makes me sad to see that she can not conrtol her impulses.
Telling her no clam down stop liz every 5 mins is getting to me and her. Family life is so hard right now , There is no time away from her everyday is so tense wonder what she will do next.
We will keep going to see the psychologist so he can help us help her get back on tract.
I know I am rambling on I feel like it.. This is all so new and scarry!!!

Welcome, Nichole
It is a very scary thing to give your child meds! I remember it all too well. DS went on meds at 4 1/2. He is now 8 1/2 and doing great! The meds have made a huge difference in his attention at school and his impulsiveness (and of course the hyperness). Don't get me wrong - he is still a handfull but the difference is unbelievable - and he is much happier as well.
Definitely keep us posted! And visit the Medication section for ANY questions you have!! It can be so helpful and supportive!

Hi Nichole, I saw another post in another section, but Welcome again As Eaccae has pointed out the meds section has a lot of good information. As I don't do meds, we adjusted our diets according to the Feingold Plan, and that in itself has worked wonders. There is more information in the natural alternatives section about that. We have all been to the pulling out the hair, tried everything time, and it does get better, really it does. It may take some trial and error, but you'll learn what does and what doesn't work for you and your family. Look around for a while, the behavior section has been one of my saving graces, just to know I'm not alone when it comes to my son and his impulsiveness, and my daughter and her air-headedness. (((((((((hugs)))))))))) to you. Welcome again.

Welcome! Glad you found us. My dd was dx'd in 1st grade and will be starting 7th tomorrow. Yes, it is/was a hard ride and we have all been where you are now. It is scary having to give your child meds, but when you see the outcome of it, how it helps, then you see it's worth it.
Like Kaiti pointed out though, there are alternative to meds you may want to investigate. It is a personal decision and a matter of trial and error. What works for some may not work for others.
It is good you will continue to see the psych because meds will not work alone. You will need the behavior modification to go along with it.
Keep posting, and reading, and know you are not alone. We are all there and sometimes the road has been bumpy, but everyone here has a child that is making it thanks to his/her wonderful parent.
Welcome home!
