Hello everyone. I am brand new to this forum/support group thing. I hope to fit in and get/give some good info. My son was diagnosed a couple of years ago with ADHD and SID (sensory integration disorder). He is 8 years old now and is quite a handful. I truly need some guidance and support for both of us.

Hi rsl, Don't worry about fitting in, our family is so diverse and helpful. And I have already covered asking all of the stupid questions. and then I realized there is no such thing, everyone's point of view helps. Fire away. Take care Kaiti

71929- Hey there! My name is Paul and my son (13) is also adhd and S.I. We are still working on getting the dx. I am also ADHD (41). Is medication a part of your way of dealing or do you take a more natural approach? (Both points of veiw are represented and accepted here) This place has been a God send for me, I'm sure you'll find it helpful. We all learn so much from each other.

Hello Songwriter. I did everything I could imagine to help my son before he was diagnosed...when he was diagnosed, the dr put him on Guanfacine (Tenex)which is a blood pressure rx. This helped a little, but as time went on, he got worse and totally uncontrollable. With tears, I agreed with his dr to put him on Concerta. I had heard all the negative reports associated with stimulants both true ones and untrue ones. His dr convinced me that this was the way to go for him. I am not saying everyone should go to meds, but it was a Godsend for mine. My son no longer says he has the devil in him or the devil made him do things. HIs self esteem has been spared. Now it is up to me to enable him to be all he can be...and do so without going insane...thank God I found ya'll!!!!!

rls, don't worry about meds or not, I personally don't care for them, but I know that this is my case with my son. I think if there was a cure all for everything, I'd be the one taking it Besides, even with the reports that are negative, good things happen too. Just a matter of tweeking and fine tunign things that's all Have a great day, and I mentioned in the other post, your son is about like mine-impulsive wise I thinkk that's who must have invented the harness for kids: A mom tired of holding a hand that wasn't holding back

Welcome, I hope you will be happy here. I have a DS 14 with inattentive ADHD and DD 11 not ADHD. We tried concerta without any luck but have had great success with Adderall XR. DS was diagnosed at 8 also, and has been on Adderall XR since he was in 3rd grade. He is now going into 8th and doing well except that I am trying to have him tested for dysgraphia, as he has loads of problems with writing. This board has been a wonderful help to me, and I hope you will feel as at home as I do.

71929- Never heard of Guanfacene (Tenex) before. I learn something new everyday. I will mention Concerta to my shrink. (We havent yet made the step towards meds, but at this point we are ready to try anything.) Really, really happy for you that things are better now. I hope to be able tyo say that soon.
Paul
