Hi All,
Just wanted to introduce myself. I used to belong to the adhd.com site, and really missed it when it ended. I've been on Millermom's site, and recently someone there posted a message from here, so I checked out this board, and absolutely love it!
I am the mother of a six year old girl who was diagnosed in July ADHD/combined type. We started her on Strattera and set her up with an IEP for first grade and she seems to be, for the most part, doing so much better than last year.
While doing research on ADHD and it's symptoms, I came to a realization, as many do, that I, myself, have ADHD as well. A classic case, to be exact! So about a month ago I went to a Neurologist and was diagnosed. I, also, started on Strattera, and I seem to be doing better, as well. Not perfect yet, but much more motivated and able to face those tasks that require a lot of attention.
So now that I'm doing better, it's time for my husband, who was dx'd at the age of 16, to do something about it. Sometimes I feel like the whole family is one big mess! Does anyone use a family therapist, who can work with ADHD issues, such as household organization and relationships?
I hope to be on here much more. Everyone have a great day!

shardstar, welcome aboard.
I am really glad you found our site. We have a great bunch of people here who are very supportive and understanding.
I am glad you daughter is doing better in school. Mine is also first grade and on Strattera. We are working on the IEP and have a meeting in about 3 weeks.
I am glad that you and your husband are getting help as well.
Not sure about a family therapist, but the one my daughter goes to, talks to us as much as her, and it really seems to help.
Good luck and keep us posted!
Again, welcome aboard and welcome home!

Hello Shardstar I too was on the other site.ADHD site. After I came onto here. But just today I am writing on here. Usually I just like to read what every-one is going through. It seems every-one is going through what I am with my 5 year old boy. Plus every-one would ask the questions I needed to know too. So I would just browse on here. Every-one seems so friendly on this site too. Well nice to see you on here too. I will definately be asking questions on here and trying to help people out too(to the best of my ability) See Ya, Pamela Isidori

Thanks Dad2Brooke and AnneM
I really enjoy coming on here and seeing how the other kids are behaving with ADHD.
Plus my son might have Compulsive disorder and Tourettes. The peditrician thinks it could be a combination of all 3.
He's only 5 years old but only time will tell what is going to happen. Does not matter,I'm still going to be there for him and support him and love him.FOREVER.
Thanks and I will be on here a lot now. PAMELA

Your last sentence spoke volumes Pamela!! ... This very much sums up the feeling of all of us on this board so I just know you will feel very at home here Also don't forget the "Common Disorders associated with adhd" section where you can have a chat about OCD and Tourettes whenever you want to .... Yes, a big welcome to both of you .... Shardstar and Pamela and thank you for posting.
My ADHD-son is 17 now, and so I have teen issues to deal with. Last night he punched the roof of my car five times from the inside and then got outside and heal-kicked the top of it back down. He was mad at me because I told him that I was going to drive. I heard the noise but didn't go look. You should see what the roof of the car looks like now -- sort of like the surface of a swimming pool. After he cooled down, he looked kind of flattened. I imagine he thought that I was going to be mad at him. I said nothing at all to him but the next morning I told him that I had heard what was going on, but those were issues for him to work on, not me. I have talked to him before about anger management. I want him to work on that or think about that. It doesn't help any for me to get angry too. And besides, I'm having too much fun all the time.

Thanks to everyone for the kind welcome. I look forward to sharing with you all. It's nice to find a place where everyone is so nice! ;D
Barry, I must say that you have much more patience than I do. I would have flipped out in your situation. I applaud you!!! It takes A LOT to keep a cool head when our kids are having a tantrum or meltdown.
