Hi everyone, I am the mom to 2 terrific boys, 4 and almost 2 years old, in Alberta Canada.
The four year old is suspected to be ADHD, but not diagnosed. The dr. suggested to wait another year before diagnosing. I dont' know a lot about ADHD, and some days are such a struggle.
I am so glad I have found this site. I am hoping to learn from you all, and offer any support that I can.
Thanks for having me in your group!

Crisv and a warm welcome, it´s always nice to have new "face´s" in here It´s never too early to tsart studying adhd, so even if you´re waiting for a while before testing(wich in my opinion is pretty good thing, let him grow up a bit) you can still shearch for this and we´ve all been there where you are right now. Just look around and post away, we know what you´re going through

Hello, crisv! You will have an advantage like I did. You have time to learn a lot before your son is actually diagnosed; then when the time comes for the evaluation you will be well informed. This site was one of the ways which was immensely helpful for me, and I hope you find it helpful too!

Thank you all so much. I look forward to getting to know you all! I have so many questions, and need to learn so much before I persue diagnosing or not.
The other suspicion by the pediatrician was that my ds may be gifted. He is starting pre-kindergarten tomorrow, and I haven't mentioned anything to his teacher about either possibility. I want to wait a few days, maybe weeks, and get her untained views of him. Thanks again for the warm welcome!

:)Welcome to the family I like the idea of you waiting for the teacher to say something. Working with kids for the past, let's see, almost 15 yrs, I like to have the kid show me what they can do. I don't like the kids getting a label, because then they will try to live up to the bad reputation. Ask any question you want, I already asked all the stupid ones along with my friend Trid, so fire away. Take care and visit often Kaiti

Welcome to the family! As Kaiti said, we have already asked most all the dumb questions, so don't worry about any thing. We can make anybody on the board look smarter than us! While you are waiting to make a decision, go ahead and learn all you can. If it turns out that ADHD isn't the issue, you still can pick up a lot of great info from the folks around here. If you are leaning toward checking up on the giftedness stuff, look at www.hoagiesgifted.org and go through the loads of info there. She is a local lady here in Pennsylvania, but her info is largely universal. hope we can help you through the upcoming years! No one should have to struggle alone when there are so many of here to help you through! Again, Welcome!

Boy, it's been a long time since I was dealing with a four year old, but I sure remember the days! What can I say that hasn't already been said? Plenty of info to learn here by shopping around, plenty of fun to be had (and good stress relief), and Trid and Kaiti ask dumb questions (hehe..LOL)...I think it's all been said! Oh well, guess I'll just add my own WELCOME!! instead. Seriously though, hope you find this place to be as awe inspiring as I have. You will find good friends and great support here I guarantee! As far as your son, I like that pediatrician's idea of waiting a while. This way there is no doubt a dx was rushed into. I also think your idea of holding off telling the teacher anything is a great one. This way she isn't "looking" for anything. Nice to meet you, and hope to see you around some!
