Noah's appt. went well yesterday. He weighed 41 lbs. and was 39 1/2 inches tall. Script was for Adderall 10 mg. Started this morning, he wouldn't let us empty the capsule in anything (pudding, applesause) so he swallowed it on his own and went on about his business. He was excited because it was blue (his fave color). Didn't get to stay home with him today because I had invoicing to do at work today. I have called our caregiver like 4 times today! ;D She said he has eaten well and taken a nap!! Still didn't want to do his curriculum but has been a lot less hyper but a lot more defensive with his little bro. Maybe having some weird feelings?? The dr. told us to go up to 20 mg Friday and see how he does on that. I just want to thank everyone for your support and I will keep everyone informed and holler back if I have any questions.

Leslie...Tell Noah blue is my favorite color too ...Good for him taking the pill on his own...so many parents try just about anything to get their kids to take meds. Let us know how it goes.

Well, he definitely wasn't hyper, but I need to know if the following is normal for 1st dose of Adderall: his pupils are dilated very emotional this afternoon all day he was very defensive with Aidan; worse tonight of course, Aidan can't keep his little hands to himself (21 month old) ate lunch and took a nap but wouldn't eat dinner and we are still working on bed time. Please respond, I have been crying my eyes out because of how emotional he was. If he wasn't crying he was lashing out.

It may be that he is not at his target dose...as far as being emotional...he was probably having a rebound effect from the meds. Don't give up honey...have you called his Doctor?

I'm not one to just up and call the dr. I thought I might give him one more day and then call. I am supposed to go up to 20mg Friday and see how he does on that dose. I am scared to if this is the way he is going to react. Has anyone heard of this type of dosage cycle on the first time?

I have heard of it and it happens to a lot of people. I think your instinct is good about waiting another day.
If this med is not right for him there are others. We have had great success with Concerta...others not...sometimes it is trial and error.

I am worried most about the dilated pupils and the lashing out at Aidan. They were almost violent bu the is a really high strung chil emotionally anyway. He took the meds at 6:15 this morning and its now 15 til 8. Maybe shouldn't have let him take nap today Just trying to make myself laugh! Is anyone awake at 2:00 in the morning around here I may still be up with Noah

leslie, noah may be having a negative reaction to the adderall as my ds9 did. his pupils became dilated too, he was much more hyper, more worried.(this happened on all the stims) i would not increase the adderall on friday, as in my ds's experience, the symptoms continued. perhaps the dr should have started him out on 5 mg. can you call the dr before you give him the adderall tomorrow? i know you have to go to work, so i dont know if you can do that. i definitely understand what you are going through. i have been there too many times, as have many other parents here. believe me when i tell you, this will pass. it may take a while to find the right med and dose, but you will get there. we are here for you. please let us know how you are doing.

Steven was very emotional on Aderall, but not so bad on Concerta, while my niece had just the opposite reaction. I would definately hold off on the 20mg and call the doctor. Maybe you could give him the 10 mg for a while and then the 20.

I would also stick in to that 10mg for a while, but call your dr first. Trouble getting sleep is very normal when starting stim´s, happend to us too, but got better in about a week or so. Emotion´s, sound´s familiar too, although we use concerta, not adderal, but a stim as well. Dilated pupil´s Dont remember if we had that....sorry. I think it´s good to try a week or a little more, call tat dr and continue as he tell´s you, dont let him increase the dosage yet. Hang in ther, these thing´s need´s adjustment.

How was Noah today? Since I don't do meds, I can't help alot, but if it is like anything else that I remember anything that needs to be processed through the body is going to have some type of reaction. It just depends on how the physiological break down distributes and reacts to it. Like I said, not much of a help, but actually a question in itself, are stims the meds that need a build up phase? Like an adjustment period? And then the results plaetu to the desired effect? Oh I'm sorry, not much of a help, but I'm thinking of you
