WARNING this thread may contain material not sutable for those under 18. Just in case gang!
I had something come to me last night that I found interesting and wanted to share. But this is a touchy subject, and involes intimate material. Since we are adults here I do not think this will be an issue.
As adults with ADHD or other mental conditions, our brains can develop strange habits and interests to feed our need for always new and exciting stimulation.
For me I learned in therapy that I was intimately drawn to exhibitionistic behavior, on a very mild case. Childhood experiences and adult experiences together shaped the way my brain developed the interest I was having with exhibitionism.
I was reading another thread about a 10 year old boy who liked to run around and shock family and friends with being naked. He didn't want to see anyone else maked, just be seen by them. His grandmother was asking how this behavior was and if related to his ADHD.
I was thinking about this and it came to me about my own exhibtionistic interests and behaviors as an adult.
In therapy I discovered that exhibitionism was a way for me to stimulate my brain and feed my need for new and exciting stimulation that was related to my ADHD.
Sexuality and ADHD have always been a subject that interested me because sexuality tends to be directly effected by the medications we each take for treatment of the ADHD symptoms. Some meds directly effect our sex lives by causing them to drop to the point that we just do not have sex, nor get arroused as much.
Sexuality can tend to be a very difficult area for those with ADHD as bordom can become a factor in the basic act of sex with our partners, and although we have lost no love or passion for them the purely physical and chemical reactions associated with normal body reactions to arrousal and sexual excitment are directly effected and suffer because of our ADHD.
I learned that being an exhibitionist was a way for my brain to counter my sexuality and lack of sexuality because of my ADHD. If I was being watched by a female no matter who it was, I was able to bring back those sexual feelings and arrousal that I lost.
The direct connection with my ADHD and the exhibitionistic behavior was all just a way that my brain was trying to help cope with and handle my ADHD directly.
Mild forms of exhibitionism can be normal in all adults, and should not be cause for any worry or fear.
Showering with the bathroom door open while friends are over, coming out into the living room or to the door in just a towel with the opposite sex present, and changing cloths in front of others, are all mild forms of exhibitionism.
So I ask what methods has your brain developed to cope with your ADHD symptoms. How are they related to your sexuality, and sex life, and your partners?
You may be surprised at just how and why your behaviors are the way they are, and its worth a good discussion.
