Ya'll pray for me! After printing for 20 yrs. I am taking a position as direct worker for a home for troubled kids. If anybody is thinking "how stupid of him" I have to agree with you. Wondering what I'm in for, being around other problem children all the time. I imagine this position as being something between baby sitting and prison guard. Oh, well - Desparate times call for desperate measures. Any of you jack of all trades type persons done this?
Paul

I LOVE THAT MOVIE!!!!!! We watched it in 8th grade. I can still see that soda bottle falling outta the "sky"
AND Good Luck. You'll be fine. Like Linda said. the respect factor is BIG with troubled kids. Don't let them walk on you to begin with. That just throughs it all down hill. But listen with your heart. Speak with your heart, and let them be honest. Don't judge the flaws, just the character.
You'll be great Paul..... Kaiti

Good luck with that Paul. Please let us know how you do. I think that all your experience with ADHD will be of immense benefit to you, but I understand that that type of work can also be tiring. So you'll have to look after yourself. But you are helping those in need.

Started training today for that new job. There is an aweful (Good word ) lot of paperwork. Much of the info was clear as mud. Our group (15 people) was mostly on information overload. I am feeling better about it after knowing some things, though. The kids I saw today seemed very normal and well behaved. I guess they were either bribed or threatened within inches of their lives. Most of the new group of employees are younger than me. There are 4 others from my town training also so maybe we can do the carpool thing. Please pray for me as all this is kind of new and scarey Paul

Lordy, Lordy- I simply cannot believe the amount of paperwork involved with this job! We havent started working with kids yet, just training,(all day) Information overload is an understatement. ..One day at a time, Sweet Jesus.... O.k.- so I should have responded to the pessimist thread! Positives: closer to home than last job, team effort, good ins. Paul

Paul I am so proud of you! I think helping kids, in any way, is so wonderful.
Maybe the kids were well behaved for you b/c you did not prejudge them. Kids hate to go into a situation where they feel like they arelabeled before they gave YOU a reason to label them.
That is the cool thing about kids. They see each new person as a new start, a chance to gain some respect and make a friend. Some may even secertly hope you can help them. And I am sure you can!!
Good luck with the paperwork, for some reason I see you putting the Paper Reduction Act into effect real quick!!
Becky
