I have a creative zen mini. Much like an ipod, but actually rated better. Ipod is very picky and you have to use itunes to get music. With the creative, I can use any of the download sites from the free stuff to walmart, napster, etc. I can also rip music from CD's onto my computer and then upload it to the creative. The only problem with this product is the lack of accessories. You can buy ipod stuff everywhere. I had to look to ebay to find an arm band carrier that wasnt huge or overly expensive. Sam has a Toshiba "Gigabeat" ... again much like an ipod but not an Ipod ... The Ipod seemed to be the FIRST of the bunch ... but isn't necessarily the best of the bunch....

I've seen those zen mini's. It is good to hear that it receives a decent rating. Glad to hear about the troubles of others too. I bet I could find some tech forum that would tell me that, but I would definately be afraid to say something due to my lack of knowledge. I just want something simple to play music, that is small and is not hard to program or update. How about the Gigabyte thing. How many do you need? I don't need to store 10,000 songs, but I would hate to keep reloading every day I wanted to listen something different. How about organization? How are the songs grouped? Probably depends on the brand. Chat with you all later. Miles

The zen is easy to upload, and the mini holds up to around 2500 songs depending on the length (I think they use 3 minutes as the standard). I have around 500 on mine with many songs in the 6+ minute length. I have tons of room left. I use mine when walking. I walk 1 1/2-2 hours a day and can go a week or so without repeating a whole lot. For the most part, they put songs on there either alphabetically or in order of when you load them, but they can be looked up by artist, title, record, or you can make your own playlists. The mini has a "random play" so you can just hear whatever comes up if you want. It also has an FM radio so you dont have to listen to your stuff. You can record off the radio and even record things like classes. You can also upload books if thats what you enjoy. At one point I had all of my music plus the entire Lord of the Rings book on there. There are several places you can check out review of different MP3 players. Consumer reports, cnet reviews.cnet.com/Music/4521-6532_7-5021434-3.html?tag=dir.temp (these are the bigger MP3s) and zdnet are places you can check out.
