hi,
at what point does adhd become just an excuse for a person's antisocial behaviors? ie. doing whatever he/she wishes and bothering people along the way - whether it's vandalising cars or harassing people.

KrisMo and welcome. As for your question; Adhd should never been used as an exuce for any bad, not wanted behaviour. No matter what kind of a dx a person has, they still have to obey ruleĀ“s and behave well as any other person!! So, briewly; adhd is no exuce for bad behaviour, NEVER!!

Well said finnmom! Adhd is not a permission slip to behave badly and neither is the use of ritalin or any adhd drug. (I see that alot..it was the ritalin that made him a bad adult etc.,)

I agree with the others... Having adhd (although I dont have it my sd does) is not an excuse for bad behaviors... Every person weather adhd or not, needs to be accountable for their actions.... On a more personal note, I (me personally) HAVE probably used it as an excuse for my sd's behavior in the begining... I simply didnt know how to change the unwanted behaviors, and was throwing up my arms saying, well she isnt medicated today (or whatever the case was)... BAD MOM I know!!

I think every ADD book I've read says the same thing that you all have said. Having the disorder makes it a little harder to do right sometimes, but one can and must overcome his physical weaknesses. He has a will that he needs to train to be stronger than his impulsiveness. Difficult, yes; impossible, no. We all have difficulties we must overcome in order to be the person that we should be. It can be done! Don't give up!

Hey KrisMo Welcome!! I have to go along with what was said above. I often tell my son that you have the power to start it, you can find the power to stop it. It is just a little more effort to do. Miles

Another one who agrees with everyone else ...
Severe antisocial behaviour including vandalising cars is more likely to be possibly part of "Conduct Disorder" which is a whole different thing altogether and requires a different perspective than adhd/add.
