Hello to all - I'm a newbie (signed up a long time ago, but forgot that I'd put the link in my "favorites" folder - don't think I've ever posted).
Got a whole string of things to ask, but can't think of even one of them right now.
Just wanted to say hello.
Hugs!

Thanks for the welcome ....
I did recall one of my most currently pressing questions.
How in heck can I get myself motivated to do stuff that needs doing? I don't understand why, but there are times that, no matter how important the task is, I cannot get myself to do it. It just doesn't make sense. This even gets to the point of being self destructive. I'll procrastinate and put off until someone actually tells me they need it done by X time. I am late getting things done and even though I KNOW it has to be done and that I NEED to do it now and not procrastinate, I cannot seem to kick myself into gear.
Then, when things are piled up to the point of insanity, I'll get really motivated, tackle it, plow through it steadily one thing at a time, get it all done and caught up and SWEAR that I will NEVER let it get that bad again. (funny thing is, I really enjoy tackling the huge mountain, but can hardly stand the little molehills there for me to step over) After all, how hard is it to keep up with some very simple clerical work? It's not difficult work (also not stimulating, but that's another issue). However, it's also not regular - it's either feast or famine. Times when there is little to do are times when I have the WORST motivational problems. I'll go on with my "to-do" lists for a while, keeping organized and on top of things and then, somehow, one day I find myself right back where I was - unmotivated, bored and procrastinating. I'm very good at getting organized but lousy at staying that way.
Am I going crazy? Sometimes I think so. I don't understand why I can't just DO IT. I really don't know how to describe it or explain it. Any suggestions?
Thanks again!

Hey, smc...
You are living MY life! I know EXACTLY what you mean... you aren't crazy, stupid, lazy, or any of the other labels of blame that you can think of... it is just WHO you are!
It is WHO I am too. We do our best work under fire. My son is the same way. I like to think of it as efficient... Why waste my time dilly~dallying over something when I can BLAST THROUGH it last minute... and get it done better than I ever did by planning and chunking it into smaller steps.
But, since the rest of the world expects everyone to conform, we have to figure out how to live by THEIR rules. I don't have any suggestions, except maybe to just accept yourself for the uniqueness of YOU... and let the world pile up until you are ready to charge through it again!
In the mean time, maybe check out FLYLADY.NET and see if there is anything there that will help you get organized. She was really motivational to me, before I broke my arm and couldn't FLY... but I still think getting the e-mail everyday with a list of what to do was helpful. It was like my daily to do list getting sent to me by somebody I felt was holding me accountable.

Boy, thought someone hijacked me for a minute ;D ;D My piles will tell you that ;D Welcome home, to the club that let's you make as many piles as you want, but when they fall over, you need to clean I do the same thing. As far as motivation....... ???the jury is still out on that one....I just get in my moods when I am either a super organizer or super slob. It's all or nothing in my world :oNot too fun when the landlord says someone will be looking at the house in 2 hours.....BUT I get moer done in those 2 hours than I have all week. One thing that I try to remember is that no one is perfect......unles you look at magazines, btu keep in mind that those pics usually take a few shots before they get it right...so don't go by them Anyhow, you sound like me....I have quite a few sites in my favorites, including this one.....and sometimes, i just need to break out of the mold and go to do something different. See ya around Kaiti

Thank you all for the warm welcome!
Oh, gosh, it's so nice to NOT feel alone in this! I feel like such a lazy bum sometimes. But then other times, I've got a more intense work ethic than anyone else I know. I can't seem to find balance.
I'll certainly check out the flylady.net. As far as organization, ya, I'm really great at getting organized, developing practical, systematic approaches and checklisting myself - until .... then keeping organized, using all of those wodnerful approaches and checklists just fall by the wayside.
Anyway, I'll keep trying ... what's really frustrating is that when I say I'm trying to improve or do better, people don't believe me - they seem to think that if I were, then things would be different. What's most frustrating is that it seems like the more I determine that I'm going to turn over a new leaf and do better and stay on top of things and quit procrastinating, the worse I fail.
Anyway, thanks so much for the wonderful welcome! You guys sound like such a fun and supportive "family" here!
Hugs!

OH NO< SHE HIJACKED ME FOR SURE I feel for you, I do the same thing, the harder I try the harder I fall, and so do the piles. One thing I Do know that helps me: I start small, like pencils and pens. If I look at my house and think, OMG :oI just look around and see what I can put back in it's spot. Hence the pencils and pens. I have separate cans for pencils, pens, colored pencils, markers....ALL SEPARATE..so I just go from there to papers, books.....but I only do one thing.....when I get bored of that I put something else away....then I take a break after a while. Don't wanna get burnt out from the piles leaning ;D ;D ;D And Linda, my piles tell me that I have something better to do than clean.....like go to the club or play on here, or more importantly do the LECTURE that NO ONE ELSE CLEANS AROUND THIS HOUSE ;D ;D ;Dopps, I meant

Forgot to add that it makes me feel better when people tell me that they TOO live out of a clothes basket instead of put all of the clothes away ;D You know it's a shame when people sit around and try to compare notes when we are all just basically the same

;D ;D ;D ;D
OMG! I'm truly not alone in the universe!
In my spare bedroom you'll find the bed piled high with unfolded but clean laundry - I get it semi-sorted into stacks, but hardly ever get around to folding it! Drives DH crazy ... and, yes, I HATE sorting socks, too - when I do fold, that's the last thing I do and if I run out of steam before it all gets folded, the socks are usually the items that get left out.
This is too funny!
It's not a dream - I really am home!
Hugs!
