As some of you know, I am working on a book about coping with ADHD. I have solicited anecdotal stories of adult experiences with ADHD in themselves, their partners and their children, and sent out questionnaires, as well.
I'd like to ask for some more personal accounts of experiences of anyone who would care to share, this time on the following question:
"Has your partner, in dealing with your condition, gone to extraordinary lengths or taken some exceptionally sacrificial step in order to be supportive of you?" (conversely, 'have you as a partner given up something extreme in order to support your ADHD partner?')
If you have such a story, tell it in detail, and send as email to
quantumetrics@att.net
You may remain anonymous if that is your preference.
I am very appreciative of any and all input!
Douglas

Quick question from a parent point of view, what if you think you are, by basing it off of your child/childrens dx? But you yourself have never been dx'd?

It is a fairly common occurrence to suspect yourself/your partner/your other children, once one of your children has been diagnosed. The genetic link is pretty firmly established.
Go to an adult physician, discuss it, and seek a referral to a clinical psychologist to get tested. I suggest that you NOT rely upon a general practitioner or anecdotal evidence ... be as certain as you can.

Not at all. In fact, it would be helpful for you to also write an account of your experience with your child, and how it occurred to you that you yourself might be ADHD. And the more detail regarding your observations of both your child and yourself as well as your thoughts processes, the better ...
again, it's
quantumetrics@att.net
i appreciate any thoughts you might offer!

RR45, if you'd care to offer stories/experiences on any of the other posted questions, those too would be appreciated!
