Hi, I'm new here.
I'm as ADHD as it gets. And right now I'm pretty well hating myself and miserable. I have put off my work for months...have been hiding it. Don't even ask how I managed to do that. I'm completely ashamed.
I just got started with Ritalin again last week and it's not really doing anything...I mean, I'm here posting, aren't I? <sigh>
Anyway, glad I found this site and look forward to joining your discussions and getting a handle on everything...it's all so out of control at the moment.
At least I handled my depression and anxiety. with natural remedies....that was HUGE.

Thank you anne and roseyred! Nice to meet you. Supplements I'm taking: *Liquid B Complex (Brand is Liquid Health. The product is called Energy and Stress) - I noticed my anxiety disappear within about a week. I was VERY amazed. I used to take Xanax; haven't touched it in a long time (exception is when my mother occassionally drives me to the absolute brink). You can order this online if you can't find it at a health food store. I like the liquid because it seems to get into my system fast. *Omega 3 Fish Oils - Depression. Seems to be working. I had debilitating depression before. Have tried almost everything in the med world, but always have nasty side effects and I'm very suspicious of anti-D meds in general. My philosophy is I won't take them unless it's an emergency. *5-HTP (amino acid) - on recommend from General Practitioner who also likes to go the natural route first. *L-Phenenaline (amino acid) - ditto *DMAE - supposed to help memory *Magnesium/Calcum comlex - originally took it because I don't drink milk or eat a lot of dairy, but also heard it's a mood stabilizer. (?) *Want to try L-Glutamine for memory and focus I am very VERY hypoglycemic (blood sugar tested in the 50s - lowest my dr. had ever seen). It goes hand in hand withy my ADHD and depression tendencies. Now I try to make sure I eat something hearty BEFORE I get hungry. If I wait till I'm hungry it's too late, my blood sugar will take a dive and put me into a bad emotional state and my ADHD is at it's height--likely to have anger flashes or want to take a nap. *I also drink a lot of water now (this was hard -- hated water pretty much). Drink before meals, when I get up, when I go to bed. *Been trying to eat better. In general, I eat a lot of whole grains (as unprocessed as possible from a very earthy health food store) including: oatmeal, barley, brown rice, bean soups. Also, eat fish, chicken, and boiled eggs. I have added deep leafy greens (yuck) - squash, broccoli, etc. and some fruit. *I started exercising. This was hell at first, but getting to be not so bad. (Let's not get hysterical and say it's fun yet. ) *Went to an eye dr. also and learned I am farsighted (a bit) and got glasses. He said this should help to stay focused longer also, since he said my eyes were working too hard and likely getting tired and making me want to give up early. I can't say enough about the Liquid B and Omega 3. I did NOT imagine that it would actually cure my depression. I was at times suicidal and would sleep endlessly. So, for me, this is unbeleivable. Hope it works as well for others as it has me. I do have cravings for sugar a lot and find that if I eat before I'm hungry and have a glass of water before I eat, it's not so bad. Also, when I do give in to sweets, I go out of my way to make sure it is exactly what I'm craving...otherwise, I'll eat twice as much just trying to get the same satisfaction. Thanks for having me in the club. I'm so happy to be here. buttercup

Oh Buttercup, your more than welcome here. You about sound like me, except I don't take all the stuff you do. Just a mulitvitamin and I just started taking St John Wort. I'm not sure if it's effecting me or not, since I work for a school, and we just got out for the summer so I don't have as much stress to worry about.
Anyhow, I wear my glasses only if I have to. I'm very bad about that, but it does help my mind focus as well as my eyes. My son is the same way, when he doesn't have his glasses on, he's let's just say, in trouble alot.
I've been through the suicidal thougths and all that, but not for quite some time-talking years ago. But it can be brutal. I've learned to not take on as much only because I didn't want to say no. Talk about stress lifter.
Like we said before welcome and type away. I love venting here, because I KNOW someone else is feeling the exact same way, and can relate somehow
Have a great day

Hi Buttercup Wellcome on board I´am here because my ds8 was dx´d as adhd 2 year´s ago. This site has been a lifesafer for me. I found it really interesting that you´ve had such good experience´s of Omega-3, I´ve just started my ds on it few week´s ago, so I´am still waiting it to built up. Good to hear it´s helping you! I´ve read that chromi (sp?) would help for sweet-craving, have you ever tried it? It´s really nice to have you in here, I hope you´ll find your answer´s from here, this is a good place to vent and ramble... we all know what you´re going through. Marja

Hey Marja, chalk up another duh for me. I take chromium, although for weight loss. It helps metabolize the sugars in your blood, and I get woozy sometimes, but I think it's more low blood sugar. I haven't gone to a doc for it, but the whole family has sugar problems. I'm just a chicken and afraid that if I go to the doc's, the'll tell me I have everything imaginable.....so I just don't go. Anyhow, I thinkit is chromium that you are refering to.

Ooh, I was SOOO frustrated trying to deal with this whole login thing. AAAAAAUUUUUGHHHH. I could see your posts, but everytime I went to replay it would ask me to Login and then tell me I need to Log In. RAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!
Ok, better now.
Glad to hear about the Chromium. I will go pick it up today and try. Also, looking forward to trying Glutamine.
Yes, apparently the eating regularly (especially foods that will sustain you) and not preventing your bloodsugar from fluctuating is important for preventing diabetes. From what I understand, the pancrease can wear out and stop producing insulin if not handled with TLC (heard this from various sources).
My worse/typical scenarios are these: I am running out the door--always late, of course, and there is nothing to throw in my purse. There's nothing really to grab that's quick to eat, and next thing you know I am with friends in a situation where I am nearly fainting and experiencing all the sweating, panic, diziness, etc. while trying to appear normal...andi it's a situation that would be weird to start eating...like waiting for a table at a restaurant. Ugh. Staying on top of hypoglyecemia is a p/t job. I now work from home just to deal with it.
Thanks for the warm welcome.

Buttercup- I was thrilled to see that omega-3 and b complex are helping your anxiety and depression. I also struggle with anxiety and take those but maybe I'm not taking enough of them. Can you tell us how much you are taking?

A.M. *Omega 3 Fish Oil Capsules - 3 (1000 mg) capsules in the a.m. *Liquid B Complex - 1 oz. Here's the website - can be hard to find in stores: www.liquidhealthinc.com/products.php*L-Phenylalanine - 1 (500 mg) *5-HTP - 1 (50 mg) *Calciium/Magnesium blend - 1 (250mg Calcium/125 mg Magnesium) *DMAE 2 (351 mg) AFTERNOON *L-Phenylalanine - 1 (500 mg) *5-HTP - 1 (50 mg) I take these everday without fail. I think it's probably important to be consistent. I am pretty confident that it was the Omega 3 and Liquid B that helped me the most. I do not miss a day since I feel so much better. I have the usual triggers to deep depression, but just like when I was on anti-D pharmaceuticals (tried Paxil, Welbutrin, Prozac, and Effexor); I just don't get down as deeply or for as long. Sometimes I just need a nap and I'm fine! I'm not one to overcompliment a product either. I'm usually skeptical that natural things just won't have the OOMF I need. If it doesn't work, it's pretty obvious. I cannot hide depression at all. But, I will give this a 5 out of 5 rating for how it has helped me. I have an emergecy Straterra prescription just sitting in my cabinet (dr. said it was for depression AND ADHD--is that true?) So far, haven't gone there. I will admit, though, that the natural stuff so far has not made a dent in my inability to focus on important things and tear myself away from wasting unthinkable amounts of hours doing nothing stuff. So, back to Ritalin. Also, I have insomnia in a big way. Used Melatonin for this, but it has to sit under my tongue and takes about a half hour to work. Makes me drowsy and I have to drink green tea in the morning to shake off the tiredness. Much more powerful is Ambien. I have a prescription for that too. I have been taking a 1/2 tablet each night. I hate that I am relying on that and will probably try to stop soon. I just know that it works like BANG! I'm alseep and BANG! I'm awake at about 6 a.m. It's more convenient and fast acting, for sure. I just imagine it's probably not good for me.

Hey, I am curious about the comparison between Ambien and Melatonin. I take 10 mg of Ambien every night, have for about 9 yrs. If DH is out of town, I won't take it because I DO NOT wake up for anything. I wonder if the melatonin would work as well without knocking me OUT. But I think I read somewhere not to take melatonin with SSRI's. Any thoughts on that?
Thanks, and welcome aboard.

I'm also a lifelong member of the nailbiters club. Have bitten my nails since I was a baby. I won't bother to go into detail about all of the efforts people have use to try to "help" me.
Guess who has nails now?? It's been about a month since I stopped biting. I even went through breakup during that time. Something is helping me just not have the urge or the obsession to bite. Not sure which of the supplements or other I can thank for that...maybe the amino acids? I have been taking those for about a month too.

Hi sorry, I got busy yesterday and didn't have a chance to respond to a couple of things.
First, hi to Hoodunit.
Roseyred--yes, taking on too much is so seductive to me. I am excited by so many things that it's hard to let go of any of my interests. I feel so greedy...and exhausted sometimes. Trying to let go of some of my ambitions too.
Finnmom-- Does ds = dear son? Please keep me updated as to how well the Omega 3 works for him. I haven't really heard a lot of people talk about their experience. But, I continue to be amazed that it works for me and I have no side effects. Also, the liquid b seems to help my anger. Ugh...I am so prone to going way over the top when I get angry. I still get angry, but I seem to be able to let things go and...haha...well, forget about it. Being ADHD does have its benefits. I tend to forget the details. In fact, I broke up with a friend about 3 years ago. Recently, she wrote and said hello. I was happy to hear from her, and I honestly, could not tell you what the friendship breaking fight was about. hee hee
Tridlette - I don't know if it's ok to mix SSRIs and Melatonin either. Have no idea. I think I heard that you aren't supposed to mix something like St. Johns Wort and SSRIs. Melatonin works surprisingly well for me. I think I just get impatient with waiting and the whole drowsy thing. Ambien just knocks me out like I went under anesthesia in like 10 minutes. This cannot be good for a person over a long period of time. For all I know, it could be hard on your liver (which is the organ that clears many drugs, alcohol, etc.). I can't imagine that melatonin would hurt anything, but I would check with an internist to be sure.
