I went to my doctor yesterday and we had a long talk about ADD. He knows about my 12 yr old son Johnathon and his ADHD/MD....we always thought it came form his biological Dad....well apparetnly not. It's possible it came from both of us, or me. I was perscribed Ritalin yesterday, and I took it when I got home. As strange as it sounds, it helped me sleep!! I know that's not the 'normal' effect, but I only got 3 hours sleep the night before. I had a nice long nap and when I woke up I felt great!! I think I slept so well because my mind was not racing. Usually it takes me over an hour to fall asleep, I just can't stop thinking. I'm off to work today, on Ritalin, and I have NO idea how I will do. I'm fine at home, and I hope I will be the same at work. I was wondering if anyone knows how long it takes for the med to get into your system. I know Dexadrine,Concerta etc... take a while, but what about the Ritalin? Right now I take 10mg's in the morning. If anyone has any information for me I would really appreciate it.

Veronika, I do not know anything about Ritalin, but good for you. I am glad you talked to your doctor. It will be interesting to see how work goes. Maybe you will turn into a super-emplyoee!! Hope it keeps going well...Becky ;D

I do not have experience with Ritalin either, but I hope you will share the results ... I'm sure it will be useful to others in the future!

I wish you all the luck in the world V. Paul used to take ritalin when he was younger..so that is the only experience I have with it. I do know that it takes about 20 to 30 minutes to get in your system...but not sure about adults You are starting on a low dose so be aware you may have to bump it! Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

GOOD LUCK Veronika ..... Like Linda the only experience I have is that Sam was on straight ritalin (for a short time) before starting concerta .... the one "negative" we found was that he had some fairly significant 'rebounds' as it wore off... but hopefully you will not find that ....
Wishing you heaps and heaps of luck and looking forward to sharing your experiences.

The only experience I have with Ritalin was when DD was taking it several years ago, it was wearing off too quickly so we changed to Concerta, and now Strattera.
Best of luck...hope everything goes well!

Cool V. My son's OT is on ritalin and he says it really helps him focus. He really knows it when he forgets to take it..
