Alla got a job as a TTY operator (being an operator for deaf people and relaying messages to and from text for them).
In any case.
During the interview, the nice lady behind the desk asked me if I'd have any problems with obscenity or sexual content. I told her that I've lived with someone whose idea of fun was leaving not-so-clean messages on friends' answering machines.
Apparently some people completely missed the point of that question. She said that one lady quit because "she didn't think that would include people taking the lord's name in vain" - since CAs have to type/repeat everything word-for-word, she was uncomfortable with it. Another was shocked by "sexual content". She had to whisper it when she told the HR lady why she was quitting. Hey, a job where the fact that I'm generally slightly vocal about such matters is a good thing!
They spend time during training desensitizing people. Training is from Dec. 1 through 18, Monday through Friday, from 6pm to 12am. I told them that that's past my bedtime on weeknights. They were amused.
In any case, I think this job will probably be something I can do rather well. I tend to miss visual cues (body language), so something where I pretty much don't have to deal with them is great.
Once I start working, I have a set schedule where I pretty much 20 hours, 16 on Friday through Sunday. I can switch shifts with people, and can change my schedule every 3 weeks if I need to. All my scheduled shifts are only 4 hours. Saturdays I'll work two, one in the morning and one in the evening. I'll probably be able to pick up lots of extra shifts over the holidays. They've also said that if I need any sort of accommodation like an extra break so I don't bounce off the walls, just bring them a doctor's note.
Weeeeee!!!
The only big problem is that I start working working (ie, not training) on Dec. 22. Which is after they've kicked us out of the dorms. I might be able to stay with a friend of mine most of the time after her parents are gone and I have connections that can get me a decent hotel room for $29/night if I need it for a few.
*dances around*
Alla gets paychecks!!!
