I am a big, big fan of the TV show "24," a cliff-hanging thriller on Fox Tuesdays at 9 pm. This show is ADD personified: a television show that jumps from subplot to subplot to subplot to subplot, lingering in one place only for moments, as everything runs concurrently at a breakneck pace. It is, ironically, an ADD adult's dream.
But I tell you that in order to tell you this: last night during "24" there was a TV commercial showing a woman in a business meeting. The point of view flashes into her mind, where the "channels" are surfing at a breakneck pace, jumping from subplot to subplot to subplot, preventing her from understanding what's going on in the meeting. Her mind is the victim of a mad channel-switcher gone haywire with her brain's remote control, and she is a bit dazed. Suddenly, she realizes everyone in the meeting is looking at her, expecting her to speak. She is completely lost.
I practically leaped at the screen. I felt like crying.
"That's me!" I realized.
Has anyone else seen this commercial? Does it ring true for you as well?
Never has the reality of my existence, since my teenage years, been so clearly illustrated. If only people understood!

Oh my gosh, we saw this last night...my husband stared at it and said "I feel like that at school", and I told him I'd read about the commercial here. He's on day 8 of Strattera 40 mg, not drinking as much Mountain Dew but is tired all the time and has headaches.

He should not be drinking soft drinks!
Both regular and diet soft drinks are bad news!

If he's not drinking as much Mountain Dew, it's entirely possible that he's in caffeine withdrawal.

I know, I know, but I never could convince him that he didn't need the sugar, didn't need the empty calories, but I was talking to a great big wall
He's gone from nearly a 12 pack a day to 2 so that's a major improvement. Allanque, I think you're right, it probably is caffeine withdrawal. He still doesn't drink much water but he is drinking more milk.

I think you are both right - caffeine withdrawl. I remember both preganancies - I was one of those coffee in one hand coke in the other - at every minute of the day people. And then suddenly . . . same symptoms. Actually - when my cousin and I foolishly decided to try the atkins diet we had to quit caffeine and I was so tired, had such headaches . . . And then - after about 3 weeks of following that diet to a tee - we realized that both of us had so little energy we couldn't function. So no more of that! Godd news is that I DID cut down on the caffeine.

People on caffeine withdrawal are not a good thing. Dad's flat on his back in bed by afternoon if he doesn't get enough coffee in the morning.
When he got operated on, he was up right before the last time he was allowed to have anything before it, drinking coffee (he's normally in bed by 9 or 10 - this was either midnight or 2am). They didn't get around to him until 4 in the afternoon, and apparently Mom was about ready to kill him by that time.

i have seen it a number of times and each time i answer the questions "yes, yes, yes, yes..." It is a plus for us adults never dx'd as kids because now we can ask doc if they have seen it and tell them well that is me that is how I have felt my whole life.
I am still working on a book that I have already read once before. It has been almost 2 months that I have been reading it that is how distracted I get.

Allanque, I feel that. My dad had to have testing done one day because he started to have coughing fits and would eventually pass out from lack of Oxygen. We(me and dad, and my son) are the ones who kick the rooster is the butt in the morning. By the end of the morning when my mom, who was having knee tests done, would walk through the halls of the hospital, the nurses would laugh and say the bear was still awake. No caffine, I don't know what I'd do, BUT I saw on the news that if you have an increased amount of coffee to drink, you're less likely to have type 2 diabieties(sp) OK, I'll get back on track in a little bit, "24" have have heard is a good show---see back on track--- Kaiti

I just stumbled across this forum yesterday.....Wow! This is very enlightening, to say the least. I've been trying to figure out what the heck is wrong with me for years, and I guess I never looked in the right place...probably got too distracted. Lately, things seem to be getting worse, or at least I've become more terrified that my inability to function will cause some serious problems for me.
Anyway, I just wanted to say that I too saw that TV commercial and felt as if it spoke to me. Curious, I started a little on-line searching into ADD/ADHD the other day (typically avoiding work). I took several different "quizzes" and perused lists of symptoms/characteristics of ADD in adults. Although undiganosed as yet, I'm convinced that I've been suffering from this disorder for most of life.
Now I feel a bit encouraged that maybe I can do something to get my life on track...but I'm not sure where to begin.
I hope to be able to pick your collective brains/experience for some insight.
Thanks.
