I was recently given 5mg Valium after having an anxiety attack (I thought I was having a heart attack). I am currently on 54mg Concerta and 40mg Paxil. Has anyone taking ADD medication ever been given a prescription for Valium. The Valium really helps toward the end of the day and removed the anxiety.
Since I was only given 20 pills by an urgent care doctor, not my regular doctor, I want to ask for a regular prescription for Valium, but I want to find out if anybody else has taken this combination first.
Thank you.

Well, if no one else is going to jump into this one, I will. Valium can be addictive and from what I understand is a nightmare to get off. Anxiety can be a part of ADHD though (I can't take any ADHD meds because they make me so irritable). Some SSRIs can help with anxiety. My mom used to take Klonopin (same family as Valium) when she was having really bad panic attacks and it's not supposed to be as addicting because it's longer-acting. Maybe the anxiety has to do with the Concerta wearing off if it's at the end of the day? Anyway I suggest you talk to your regular doctor and see what he suggests. Christie

Christie,
Thank you for your response. I will discuss this with my Pychologist. It is a shame that valium is addicting, because it really worked. I wonder if taking 5mg once or twice a day would be addictive though. It seems like such a small amount.

I would definitely check with your doctor. My sister is addicted to Xanax. - Another highly addictive drug that her doctor gave to her for anxiety and sleeping. Unfortunately I don't think he is the greatest of doctors - she is on a lot of things including zoloft and xanax. (Usually when people go onto zoloft they try to ween them off of anxiety medications including xanax). I've watched her pop a bunch of them at a time to relax her (she didn't start off this way). She spoke with her doctor because I told her it was a highly addictive drug and she was popping them like candy. Her doctor said yes, it was, but she wasn't addicted. No, she can't go a day without a bunch of xanax, that's not addicted. Anyway - I would just do some research first. There maybe a dosage that is low enough that might help you but not be addictive. There IS one for xanax that my sister is going to try and ween down to.
