Oh Sierra, I feel for you . I had migrains once a week, every week from the age of 4-16. They only lasted 24 hours, but the pain. All I could do is sleep and throw up. I hope you have a decent support when you get them. I could not imagine having them for multiple days. Miles

Hiya Sierra and Miles, Can't say I've been able to find a lot of either. Who knew kids would be so demanding?! just kidding. Anyway, glad to know a couple of you are still here. Sierra, I think we've talked since the time I was here. I did get your last message. Thanks. :)Susan

I have the perfect solution for migrains...demerol!! It is like my best friend. If I get a really bad one I take my perscription, then 4000 mg of ibeauprophen (sp?), the 550 of perscription Aleve. If all else fails, I go to the ER and I have an order from my doc for a shot of demerol. It knocks me out. By the time I wake up it is either gone or seriously dulled. I have only done this 3 times in the last five years, but it does the trick for me. I can only go when I know my Hubby is home for the night b/c I need a ride there and then he is in charge of the kids. Can you imagine watching a 2 and 4 yo all whooped up on drugs!!! That would not be a good thing!...Good Luck....Becky

I have effective medication once the headache gets here. Knocks me flat for about 1-2 hours then I'm fine. It's waiting for the dang headache to get here that drives me batty. I get 6-8 headaches a year. Frequency is increasing. And the twilight time before the headache actually starts keeps increasing.
So that week was mostly waiting for the headache to arrive. Or maybe not. I can function but I have a lot of trouble with focus and getting the important things done.

Sierra, have you tried asking the doctor for something that would keep them from coming?
I know they put me on Verapamil when I was having migraines (which were actually due to the lovely black mold growing in our room - we didn't think anything of it) and it helped a bit.

Honestly I've been so tickled to find something that will stop them I haven't really worried about keeping them from coming. I've only been taking triptans for about a year and Whooo EEEEE what a releif to stop one in its tracks.
I'll take up the question of prevention next time I talk with my doc. There are always trade offs with headache meds. Side effects can outweigh the benefit of the desired effect. People with blood pressure problems should be careful of triptans. Lucky for me I don't have blood pressure problems.
