Hi Everyone!
I'm new, just joined this morning. I have been searching for some help for my 6 year old daughter. If you don't really feel like reading this book that I wrote, please scroll down to the last paragraph..When she was 4 I took her to a behavior therapist because I didn't know what to do, nothing was working, she was out of control, almost as if she had the devil living in her at times. On the 3rd visit with the therapist, she told me that my daughter had ADHD. I really wasn't too suprised, just somewhat in denial.
The therapist suggested that we try Strattera because I didn't want to put her on stimulants. The straterra had amazing results for about 2 weeks, then it just stopped. I didn't know about natural alternatives at the time, and did not research ADHD like I should have. I decided to go ahead and try stimulants with her. First was adderal then once that seemed to run it's course we tried 36 Mg. Concerta, which still to this day works well for her. The only problem is that she takes it @ 6:30AM and it has wore off by 1PM. That's when the doc. suggested we add 10MG. Ritalin @ 3PM. Well, that worked great but she was so wound up by the time it was time to go to bed, that it took her like 2 hrs. to go to sleep. OK, then the doctor added in Clonedine, which basically makes her a zoombie. The afternoon and nighttime pill was not added in until 1st grade.
Hope I am not boring you. OK, it seems as if the medicine is not really doing much at all, and our relationship is starting to deterioate. I really want to take her off the meds. My Mama told me about Omega 3, but I just thought she was looney. Well, after doing alot of research on the internet, I guess she is right! I also found this helpful website but before I read all that I needed to, I went to Vitamin World yesterday and started my daughter on the supplements. Here's what I bought:
Vit C = 200mg.
Nortic Naturals Children's DHA (4 pills serving size)
DHA = 140 mg.
EPA = 90mg.
other Omega 3 = 50mg.
Vit A = 280-390 I.U.
She had a really hard time falling asleep last night... I think she has already got dependant on that medicine that she took before bed. It took her 2 hrs. to fall asleep last night, and I only gave her the 36Mg. of Concerta in the morning. I thought she would fall asleep easy beings that she was up since 6AM!
Here's my question. I have been reading and reading on this website. The only thing that seems to be consistant is that I should multiply her weight by 6MG of Mag, but start her off at a low dosage and build her up. I know I should use Omega3, Vit C, E and later B. But I don't know if what I purchased will make a difference. I want to know if there is someone that can lead me in the direction as to how much or close of how much supplements I should giver her. She is 6 years old and weighs about 43pds. Any suggestions on something that could help her relax at night? Thank you for whatever help you can give me...
