At the meeting for my son's IEP last week I asked the psych and the spec. ed teacher if they knew first hand of any good biofeedback or other natural programs. The D.O.R.E. center came HIGHLY recommended by the psych who said he worked with a boy a few years prior who had moved here to go to the center after trying everything else (including meds) unsuccussfully. He said it changed the boy's life and he would enthusiastically recommend it to anyone. The special ed teacher gave me a packet (I haven't read it yet) about biofeedback using a metronome and said she has seen kids improve with it. Anyway I just thought I would throw those out there for folks. Currently neither is an option for us because naturally they are very costly We are also looking at the Brain Gym program that I had heard of from here. Hope everyone had a great Halloween! P.S. for anyone curious the meeting went fairly well. DS has been diagnosed dyslexic and is going to be getting help with that so that's great! Progress!

My brother sent me an article a while back about the DORE Centers from one of his Denver news sources: news4colorado.com/seenonnews4/local_story_234115315.htmlThey also have a website: www.dorecenters.com/To me it sounds like it's related to OT and approaches like maturing the symmetric tonic neck reflex. It uses physical exercises to try and get the brain to communicate better with itself. I don't know much about it, but it sounds interesting. There's a Dore Center in Colorado now, isn't there?

Yes there is one here and I wish I could sell my right lung to go there! It sounds like it could be the answer to our prayers. But alas, it's not meant to be...at least not this year.

You might check out http://www.handle.org; I believe their approach is similar to DORE. The nice thing is that they have activities listed there that you can try. It would be something for you to try for free to see if it looks like your piece of the puzzle.

Thanks cat!
Seems like the program (like everything else) can only help some kids while they purport they can help ALL. We are gonig to go ahead and try some stuff based on the concept....Brain Gym and see if that helps. I guess there's no way to know what will work for whom without each individual trying and seeing for themselves.
There is also something else the Brain Gym lady recommended I check out (I just got off the phone with her!). It is called Bal-A-Vis-X. Always something else to learn and try!
I'll be keeping y'all posted!
