Here is the situation. My son Logan is 6 soon to be 7. He was dx with ADHD about 2 years ago and then a couple months later with Tics. I would like to pull him off concerta completely. He is also on clondine for the tics. If his tics calm down after being taken off the stimulates I would like to pull him off the clodine too. He has vocal outbursts and chewing are his tics that are bothersome. He chews holes in shirts and jackets with out the meds. These have gotten worse since starting the conterta again. His ADHD is hyper activity and attention/focus. He is 50lbs.
As of right now He is on childrens multi ( it does not have red dye) Omega 3/omega 6 1200 mg Break down EPA 432 DHA 288 6 90MG
I start just start b-complex 50 again. He was really hyper the last time he was on this. But he has always been on meds with this. I am talking to his doctor tomorrwo and then pulling him off concerta.
I also have magnesium 500mg but thought that was too much for him to take.
I just read that calucium and vitimen C is good too but I could not find how much.
Does any one have any suggestion for me? Does this seems like a good combination?
Thank you for any help you can give me!!

Kelly, We consistently have problems with the B-complex supplements. They cause lots of hyperness and trouble paying attention. I still haven't been able to determine if it's the vitamins themselves or something to do with his food sensitivities, and it is very frustrating.
You don' say what your son weighs, but to figure a therapeutic dose of magnesium, multiply his body weight times 6. My 80 pound son needs 480mg daily. And this is ELEMENTAL magnesium, not the weight of the compound. A 500mg tablet of magnesium chloride, for example, contains about 62mg elemental magnesium. The good ones will give you elemental magnesium content. Magnesium chloride is most bioavailable, chelated is also good, basically anything works well except magnesium oxide so don't use that one.
For a 6 or 7 year old, the RDA for Vitamin C is 25mg, and the upper tolerable limit is 625mg, so pick anything in the middle. 500mg tablets are widely available, and I recommend going with the highest possible amount since it's a wonderful antioxidant and immune booster.
For calcium, if you consume dairy products, you shouldn't need to supplement, unless you eat a very high protein diet overall. (More protein places additional demands on the body for calcium.) The acceptable range for a child is 800mg - 2,500mg (which includes the amount from diet as well as supplements). Don't take more than 500mg calcium at any one time as it will not be well absorbed, and you should take it with a meal. You will probably find that one advantage of magnesium supplementation is better calcium utilization. Magnesium may also help with the tics.
Hope this helps some.

Thank you for your help. I will be adding the vitamine E and C to his diet. I am going to take away the b complex too. I have noticed a big increase in his hyperness.
