I am giving my son some supplements. He is also on Concerta 36mgs for the last two weeks and is doing well. No side effects except some problem sleeping. Thought I will try Melatonin on him tonight for this. I am giving him daily: Vit E 400ui Magnesium 300mg B complex 500 mg Cod Liver Oil capsule which provides 120mg Omega 3 Multi Vitamin Milk Thistle ( I am a big believer in liver detoxification) He is 20 years old, 6'4" and 195 pounds I am sure the doses are not high enough, I don't want to shock him with too many pills he already says he feels like an astronaut. Cat & Oh Mama what should I alter??? Thanks for your help.

I think it looks fine. The only change I would suggest is to take 4 of the cod liver oil capsules per day. In clinical studies, the effective dose used has been 480mg DHA per day. Newer studies seem to indicate the need to include 1 1/2 times that much EPA as well (720mg). You could add zinc, too. A study released a couple of months ago found that 55mg elemental zinc per day significantly increased the effectiveness of Ritalin, and another study a few months before that showed that zinc alone had some positive effect on impulsive behavior and aggression (but not attention). Just keep up the good work. (And I'm glad I don't have to feed a kid that size!)

Thanks Cat, I will up his Cod Liver Oil, since being on the Concerta he does not complain about taking his supplements. I will also put him on the Zinc, impulsiveness is one of his biggest problems. He is doing really well on the Concerta quite a mind boggling change. Actually the Concerta is very good on the grocery situation, he now eats three meals a day like regular folk. Before it was a full time job to keep the kitchen stocked, I have actually been known to chain two shopping carts together and drag them thru the supermarket, people think I am shopping for a daycare center or something, Oh no just one hungry boy who likes to also bring hungry big friends home. Thanks for your help.
