Hello I'm new here. My son is 7 and has ADHD next week we go back to the dr. He's on 10 mg of Adderall XR and its not working. So I'm going to switch meds(the school is making an issue out of him taking meds ) anyway I'd like to try some other things as well The main issues we have are exessive talking/can't sit still and anger issues. I've heard about the feingold diet but my husband and I aren't ready to go that step. I'm sure i'll get the "why not" but we've talked about it and just don't have the commitment for it that's why. Maybe some time down the road but I just know I won't be able to commit to it. There are already a ton of things our son doesn't eat or get. I was going to add something else and just forgot. GRR sorry about that SO if you can give me a general idea of vitamins and the amt that would be great. Caleb is 7 and 45lbs if you need anymore info I'll be happy to share. Thanks Emily

Hi Emily and welcome to the forums. RE "Maybe some time down the road but I just know I won't be able to commit to it." There are some threads here that discuss the Fiengold diet. But I know what you mean about commitment. I homeschooled our ADHD son for five years and took him to martial arts every day, but I realize full well that whatever you do have to work into your life as a whole.
You said in one of your other posts today that your son will repeat instructions and know well what should be done, but then not do it. That is a characteristic of ADHD. A great book to read in that regard is Taking Charge of ADHD by Russell Barkely. Not doing what you know you should do and doing what you know you should not do are hallmarks of ADHD, and result from what Barkely calls deficits of "executive function". They just have trouble executing what they know they should do, partly because they are so distractible and impulsive. It is a frustrating characteristic, but part of the disorder, so I never got angry at my son because of that. I just kept trying, and repeating myself.
