Hi everyone
I was wondering if you could use vitamins (therapeutic dose) as well as meds?.....
I had gabriels on vitamins but now he is on meds and I wanted to know if i could combine the two. Would this be a good thing to do?

Hi Joshua
I know I do that. My ds is on Concerta 18mg, and get´s his omega-3 and multi-vitamin pill. daily too. I once asked about witamin´s and got the answer that expecially vitamin-E is important, as well as B, (cant rememer if ti was B12 or B6), magnezium was also listed as thing´s you want to give to your child.
So to answer your question; why not, it cant hurt him... Just watch the vit.-A dosage, therapeutic do sage is quite low as I remember, bothmulti-vit. and omega-3 suplement´s tend to have some A added to them, so that´s what you want to know; how much vit.-A is he getting daily!
Med´s often make kid´s picky eater´s so adding some important vitamin´s on their daily rutin is no means harmfull, good luck!!

Joshua, For Drug-Nutrient Interactions if you would like to add vitamins or other things like amino acids, herbs, etc. and are not sure what should be avoided please see the following site... www.savonhealth.com/savonhealth/savonmain/medical.aspxScroll down half way to the Alternative Medicine section and click on Drug-Nutrient Interactions Then you will want to click on the name of the med you are giving. For example if you are giving Adderall, click on that and you will get a wealth of information on not only what to avoid but what would be beneficial to add for side effect reduction/prevention.

Gabrielsmom,
Hi there. I have an ADHD DS who is 8 years old. We have him on both meds and supplements. The meds is Concerta (36 mg) and the supplements are as follows: Omega 3s (EPA/DHA), Vitamin B complex, Vitamin E, multivitamin, Evening Primrose. The combination of both med and supplements has been working great for him. He does well in school and his moods are very pleasant.

Gabrielsmom,
Here are the supplements my DS takes with the Concerta.
1. EPA/DHA (Pure Encapsulations) 3 capsules per day ( 1 capsule = 1,000 mg fish oil, EPA 300 mg, DHA 200 mg, 10 IU. of Vitamin E. (2 capsule in the morning and1 capsule at night) 2. Vitamin E - 200 IU - 1 capsule per day. Very important when giving Omega 3s EPA/DHA. 3. Evening Primrose (Pure Encapsulations) - 1 capsule per day (530 mg) 4. Vitamin B Complex - 50 5. Multivitamin - Animal Parade brand 6. 1 Capsule of Acidophulus - to keep the intestines clean.
Pure encapsulation is a pharmaceutical grade. I know that alot of people on this website use Nordic Naturals which is also pharmaceutical grade of Omega 3s. You can order on Bayho.com
I like the Omega 3s and vitamin E. It has made a difference in my DS moods.
If you have any more questions, please let me know. Also, Catonic and Ohmama are very resourceful when it come to advice on Omega 3s.
Smiles,
Gina
