I've been reading threads and think I have a starting point for my almost 8yo ADD-In who weighs 58lbs. I went to buy Nordic Naturals Complete liquid and the store was out but they had NN Arctic Cod Liver Oil with 700 DHA/ 450 EPA other 250, 875-1950IU vit A, 5-40 IU vit D per teaspoon. Is there a reason most folks give Omega vs Cod Liver? I though I'd try 1/2t 2x per day, also got 100 IU vit E to go with and some 250 C.
thanks for any help

The major issue with cod liver oil is that it is very high in Vitamin A, often exceeding tolerable upper limits, raising the concern that it may be a toxic dose. Do you have the specific Vitamin A info for your cod liver oil? (Amount and type.) Unless your child is very young or weighs very little, you are probably within safe limits. A child who is 4 - 8 years old can normally consume as much as 3,00IU. If your child is 9 or older, this jumps to nearly 6,000IU.

Thanks Catatonic
The vit A info is confusing. It has a range of 875-1950IU in the volume column, then there is two columns, one for 4 and under and one for over 4. the percentage range is then 36-79 for <4 and 17-39 for over 4.

Probably the precise amount of Vitamin A is unpredictable because concentrations in the fish liver vary. However, even at the high end of the range listed, at your child's age, it is within the acceptable limits as adopted by the National Institutes of Health. You should be fine. I would not use this product for a child under 4 years of age, though, as the Vitamin A content is too high for the little ones.
