Hello ladies, wonder if you could give me your opinion. A friend of mine just bought some Omega3 from Costco. I bought mine from Nordic Naturals (as recommended by Ohmama). Can you check this out and tell me if this is suitable or if it is one of those useless cheapy brands. Her husband wants to try it. He has memory problems due to age like many of us, and she suspects he might be ADD but not dxed. Her son is also ADD and dyslexic (not medicated). Just need to know if she should forget the Kirkland brand (Costco housebrand) or if it is OK? Thanks again for your help.
Kirkland Signature Brand (Costco house label)
Enteric coated extra strength natural fish oil concentrate
850mg "concentrated" fish oil with 440mg Omega 3 fatty acids
No yeast, starch, sugar, gluten or lactose
Odor & Reflux free, Cholesterol free
Relase Assured
46% more Omega 3 than standard fish oil
Omega 3 fatty acids
240mg of EPA - eicosapentaenoic acid
200mg of DHA - docosahexaenoic Acid
These are soft gels and the enteric coating reduces the fishy odor and aftertaste by protecting the soft gel until it reaches the lower intestine - they also say that their fish oil comes from deep ocean waters - not farm raised

I haven't personally used this brand, but Consumer Reports, in its July 2003 issue, rated 16 major brands of fish oil capsules. They looked at their purity, presence of rancidity, mercury content, pcb's, dioxin, whether they had as much DHA/EPA as they claimed...their conclusion was that there is no real difference between brands on any of those quality measures. All of those that they tested were very good, very safe, very pure. Their top recommendation was "Kirkland Signature Natural Fish Oil" available only at Costco. There's a brief summary of the article here -- www.seniorjournal.com/NEWS/Nutrition-Vitamins/3-06-19fishoil.htm Kirkland fish oil is manufactured by Leiner and is molecularly distilled. You can read about the Leiner fish oil product here -- www.leiner.com/fishoil102003.htmThis is one bargain supplement that appears to be a good deal. (BTW, we also use Nordic Naturals.)

Thanks Catatonic. You constantly amaze me with your knowledge. My friend would be happy to know this bargain pill is all it says it is.

Mayleng, I am not a user of this brand and find that I am most comfortable with Nordic Naturals. I remember being in Costco one day and reading the label on this product. I was not impressed. Probably because it is not pharmaceutical grade? I have researched so many of these fish oils that I find there are marketing politics and sales pitches I just don't want to look at anymore. I usually call the manufacturer with pointed questions on where the fish were caught for a starter. I wouldn't give up my Nordic Naturals, it's the best.
I have a suggestion for your friends husband. Memory problems are often more serious than you may think and could be worth looking into with an evaluation. I am reading a fantastic new book called "Preventing Alzheimers" by Dr. William Shankle and Dr. Danniel Amen. This book deals with simple memory problems as well as the more serious concerns that can develop. I am half way through this book and find that I cannot put it down! It is taking my breath away!

Thanks Ohmama. My hubby and I have also been forgetful and both of us are on Omega3 too (Nordic Naturals, of course). I just started him on it. Let me know what you think when you finish reading the book.
