Hi Everyone, I have a question for you guys. For about a year now, my 4 year old son has had very cloudy urine. I noticed a lot of white particles in his urine when he had to pee in a water bottle about a year ago. Since then we have needed to use a water bottle in emergency situations and always with these particles present. The particles are heavier than his urine and settle on the bottom of the bottle after 15 minutes about 1-2 inches high. His doctor tested for protien and other things. But, tests came back as unkown substance. And that is fine with the doctor. I have often questioned yeast with my little guy. Does this sound at all familiar to anyone? Any suggestions or comments are greatly appreciated.

That is wierd, not to be rude. But it doesn't concern the doc? What was his reasoning as to why it didn't concern him?
Is your boy getting enough water daily? I know if I don't drink enough water I have a very heavy urine smell, sorry to be graphic, but I have noticed it as I think about it. I just drink more water to regulate it.
I would personally call the doc and tell him that you are concerned and ask him why shouldn't you be.
If he was alarmed at it, it would definately mean more testing, but since he doesn't seem alarmed, relax a bit.

A number of medical conditions may cause cloudy urine. Among them are bladder infections, urinary tract infections and kidney stones, which require treatment. and I assume these are what your doctor tested for. (In addition to protein-spilling, etc.)
Yeast infections also cause cloudy urine.
There are also harmless causes for cloudy urine that include eating asparagus, taking vitamins, and being on antibiotics.
If you think yeast may be a problem, you can try a harmless, low-level treatment like grapefruit seed extract and acidophilus and see if this resolves the problem. If he's on vitamins, you can try stopping them for a while to see if that's what is causing the problem.

Cat, Just wondering, as per the vitamins, could it be the vitamin itself in pure form, or any of the properties that pertain to it? For example, the gelatine that may be added or any other added ingredient? Thanks Kaiti

Just thinking out loud here....does pyroluria (is that how you spell it?) cause cloudy urine?

AustinsMom, I haven't heard of pyroluria causing cloudy urine. I think the most common things people notice (aside from the mood/behavioral issues) are sunburning easily, white spots on the fingernails, and sometimes stretch marks.
Kaiti, Although I'm sure there are plenty of causes I don't know anything about, I think that vitamins clouding urine without symptoms is generally a harmless problem, although if you're experiencing it, I'd get it checked out by the doctor anyway just in case. Although it CAN mean that you are taking too many vitamins, it doesn't necessarily mean that. Often it's just because a person has alkaline urine which precipitates out tiny salt crystals...which may have something to do with why vitamins sometimes cause it. Magnesium supplements are in the form of magnesium salts, as are other minerals. If you're putting more salts in, there are more crystals to precipitate out.
