I guess this post belongs in this section...maybe under common associated disorder. Oh well.
Anyway, does anyone else have hypoglycemia like I do?
My parents SWEAR that keeping my blood sugar level has EVERYTHING to do with my adhd.
I have severe hypoglycemia, and my dad and sister have diabetes, so it's definitely serious in my family. (My blood sugar tested at 52 and my dr. said it was the lowest score he had ever seen. Wow, cool that I broke a record? Ugh.)
Anyway, I have noticed that if I eat BEFORE I'm hungry, I have the best chance of not letting my blood sugar fluctuate too much. I think it does seem to be critical in paying attention, impulse control, etc. So, it's not only having a good hypoglycemic diet (which I can't seem to stay organized enough to stay on top of and am constantly in hypo-crisis), but timing seems to be crucial also.
Is anyone else here dealing with this? Has anyone heard of this connection before between ADHD and hypoglycemia?
Also, any tips are welcome.

As a matter of fact, yeah, I have heard of it. It wasn't directly linked to ADHD, BUT exasperated the problems.
When we took Mikey to an allergist, the first refused to do an allergy test so that we knew what food to avoid. What we found out from the second allergist was that low blood sugar levels have a BIG impact on our behavior. Just think about it.
When I am hungry and would rather be sitting and eating something, I get irritable, emotional and very defiant to others actions and reactions.....why, blood sugar is low. The amount of nutrients in your blood stream isn't enough to funtion with all of the learned skills, so you resort to the basics. That is how I under stand it anyhow, you cope with the enviornment
