Has anyone tried purposely giving their kids caffiene to see how it affects their focus? My sister said that she suspects ADD inattentive on herself (her DS is diagnosed as same), and since he's on stimulant meds, she tried going with caffiene and it seems to help her concentrate much better at work. My mother (also suspects ADD inattentive on herself), has always been a tea drinker. She drinks about 8-10 cups a day. We began discussing this theory, and wondered if she had found a solution that works for her without even realizing it. Does this sound strange ? I was thinking about giving my son some sugar sweetend ice tea (I know he wouldn't drink it without the sugar) before having him perform a typically frustrating task. Has anyone done this?

Actually, it doesn't sound strange at all. It sounds logical. Trouble is, plenty of things that sound logical don't work. Almost 2 years ago when my son's ADHD became an obvious problem at school, his teacher and I thought exactly the same thing...give the kid a little caffeine and it might settle him down sme. Trouble is, it didn't do anything. Not a blasted thing. It won't hurt to try, though, and you might have diffeent results.

OK, I have given Tara and Mikey coffee in the morning. Tara is more innatnetive, but no dx, BUT did considerably more when asked to complete a task.
Mikey on the other hand, was more like me, got it together, NOW we can tackle the world.
I have heard some older people swear by coffee, which I do in Tara's case and mine, but with Mikey, there is a line that hasn't been crossed per say, BUT it doesn't effect the hyperactivity, just the attention.

I'm finding this very interesting. I hope more people comment. I can't wait to try it on DS... just looking for the right situation so that I can judge the effects (if any) .

I know adults with ADD tend to self-medicate with caffeine (*cough*dad*cough*). I notice more of a difference from drinking a DP than from taking dextroamphetamine.

Mike does the Mountain dew thing. When we first got together, in his little tiny cramped room, half of it was a tower of MT. Dew bottles. Him and his friends whated to see how long it took to reach the top of his ceiling Yeah, he has no room to talk when it comes to the kids rooms
