I was wondering if anybody has heard of white noise and if they have used it with their adhd kids? I seen someone on ebay selling it and I wanted to know if anybody has any input? I was thinking of using it for my son during homework time but I really don't want to waste my money if not necessary. Any input would be appreciated! Thanks

I haven't heard alot about white noise-as an official term, but music type therapy or background music has effect for us. Depending on the behavior or whatever is being done at the time, depends on what kind of music I put on. science.howstuffworks.com/question47.htmI don't know if this will help or not, but it explains a little of how white noise works

I use white noise at nap time. It masks the interesting noises the bigger kids are making when the little one tries to sleep. If you're hesitant about buying a CD, try putting a little fan in the room and turn it up high. This makes a surprising amount of good old white noise...in fact, it was all I used for the older kids. A friend gave me a CD for the littlest one, and it's okay, but I still prefer the fan. It's familiar. We tried playing the CD for study, but as it turns out we don't use it at homework time because my son finds the sound irritating.

Hi sportsmom I dont know about white noice, but at my son´s class, they let him listen some music during work and it help´s. Listening radio also help´s him to fall asleep, keep´s him of thinking too much as he put´s it himself If the price is too high, try some standard music first, mayby that´ll help.

My husband and I sleep with what I call a "sound machine".you can set it to different things like the ocean....rain....very soothing. We got so used to it that when we went on vacation and forgot to bring it with us,I hardly slept. We bought it at Radio Shack.

We usually have the fan running, especially during the summer. I used to love the radio fall alseep thing, but for some reason, it keeps my mind going, so since the fans covering up some of the music-for Mike I sleep a little better during the summer.

Thanks everyone for some great ideas ;D ;D I like the fan idea---I forgot about those little sound machines--I think I might give that a try. I used to see them for sale in my avon book---if not there I am sure I can find one somewhere. I would also like to try it at night for levi and see if that would help him sleep but I doubt it. We have to wait at least another 1 1/2 months to see if his iron level is up---but I don't think the iron therapy is going to work for levis RLS. But anyways I think I am going to buy one of those relaxing tapes that you can get at walmart as well---you know the ones where you can push the buttons and listen to the different sounds (I like to push the buttons ;D ;D--another fun thing to do at walmart ha) just to see if it might work. Those cd's are way cheaper then what white noise cd's are selling for on ebay. Thanks again
