My boy's been back on supplements for a week now. Hallelujah!!!!!!! Hallelujah!!!!!!!!!!!! Hallelujah!!!!!!!!! My lovely child is once more replacing the Spaz Boy From H*ll who has unfortunately been visiting for several weeks.
I took him off all supplements for six weeks in order to take a step back and evaluate what was working and what wasn't. His list of supplements had become kind of lengthy, I'd changed brands on a couple of things, and I just didn't feel like I had a good enough handle on what was going on anymore.
First two weeks weren't bad. Middle two weeks were like a lengthy but moderate reaction when he's eaten some forbidden food that's off his diet. Last two weeks were awful. So awful that I'd get depressed, overwhelmed, angry, all those horrible feelings I had when my boy used to be out of control all the time. Then I'd remind myself, "OH YEAH, we go back on supplements soon." It gave me enough hope to get through the nightmare! Plus, as long as we are following the Feingold diet, he will NEVER EVER AGAIN be as out of control as he once was.
I now have ABSOLUTELY NO DOUBT that we must continue to use supplements. The improvement, just in a week back on them, has been very noticeable.
At this point, he is only taking fish oil and magnesium. They're the most important and he's never had a negative reaction to these so they're also the safest. He's already calmer and less quarrelsome.
I'm not going to add anything else for a full month. Then I'll add one thing for a week to see how he responds. Even if he does well, I'll stop it before testing the next thing. I think I can get away with this brief of a test period since his major nutritional deficiencies have largely been addressed by now, the ones like Omega-3 deficiency and magnesium deficiency which take months to correct.
If I ever had any doubt that supplements work wonders, that doubt is completely gone now!!!!!!!!
