Has anyone noticed that seasonal allergies make your children behave worse? My boy has a really hard time with tree pollen season, especially juniper/pine. He develops pink bags under his eyes and gets much more hyper than is usual for him. Any suggestions on what helps with this? Do you put your kids on regular allergy medications? How do they react to these? I need suggestions, because March/April can get pretty bad!

I have Jarrett on the generic form of Claritin. We use the Equate brand and it only costs about $6 or so for a 30 day supply. I do not notice any change in his behaivor when he is on it. He needs it starting about the first of March and I keep him on it until he is through playing baseball. My nephew has tried it and it didn't work well for him, but I think that is because they are allergic to different things? My nephew gets his symptoms in the fall. We think it is the cedar? Anyway, if you decide to try it, be sure to buy the generic brand. The regular Claritin is VERY expensive and it would be a shame to spend that much money and then it not work for your son. Good Luck!

The EPD/LDA allergy treatment helped us alot. Ragweed season used to be a torturous time for us. We use zyrtec as needed, but it seems to mainly help the congestion, not behavior. Have you tried quercitin? (not sure I spelled that right.) I have heard that helps some.

I give my DS flonase. It seems to work really good for him.

Thanks for all the suggestions. At least I have some ideas to look at now! When you are treating the allergy symptoms, does behavior seem to improve?

I haven't been to this section of the board for a while so I'm a little late in responding.
DS had been doing better in the winter, but this whole spring he has gone back to being very hyper, and I wondered if he has allergies and if they could be linked to his hyperactivity. He has a constant cough and stuffy nose. Last year he seemed to start having problems in the spring also. We don't have him on any kind of meds so I don't know what (if anything) helps.

Flonase helps. I used to use Claritin and thought it was just the greatest. Then, I tried Singulaire. That stuff is GREAT. Not even a sniffle.
