I am especially interested in what I have read about the Omega 3's and other supplements.
We have four kids, 15yods, 12yodd, 9yods and 6yodd. We have always homeschooled. One of the reasons we started is having been told when oldest ds was 4 that he was probably ADHD. At this time, we just saw a really gifted and eager-to-learn child. In the past year or so, we have accepted that he is ADHD and even considered medication. Two doctors said it would take the edge of his intellegence and ability to learn. Never thought I would hear that! Anyway, I can't believe we actually considered meds after fighting the diagnosis for so long. I guess I am just so tired of him disrupting our day and melting down inexplicably.
Now I need some help getting started on the supplements. I did some reading last night until the wee hours but still am not quite sure of dosing and such. Guess I am looking for a shortcut. I am a little overwhelmed here because, besides the oldest with ADHD, the 12yodd has Aspergers Syndrome and it's starting to cause her more difficulty. The 9yods is very late learning to read plus the 9 and 12yos have Tourettes. It is my understanding that the supplements that help with ADHD also help with autistic spectrum disorders. My dh also falls somewhere on the spectrum so I am very excited to find out what I can to help our family.
I have read about the Feingold diet on other boards (mostly teachingmom.com) but this board was the first one that made me want to find out more about it. I am considering but don't want to dive in right away and get overwhelmed.
So far, I have on hand Omega 3 with Flax seed and Borage(just got this today), magnesium, calcium(the wrong kind, need to replace it), Vitamin E and a bottle of just flax seed oil capsules. I also have B complex and some multivitamins. Lecithin. I think that is it. I bought all these over the past few months but we don't take all of them because I am not sure of the dosing. I recently started my15yo taking the calcium and magnesium. Sometimes I even remember the B complex.
He has terrible problems turning off his brain at night and going to sleep. He has even been awake when dh gets up for work in the morning. Then he wants to sleep all day.
A little more about us. Dh is in the Army(17 years) and is currently working on his Masters degree. He was considered severely dyslexic in school but has found ways to manage and is a fantastic student now. Graduated with hs Bachelors degree with high honors.
Think this is all for now. I hope it isn't too long.
