ohmama and catatonic,
since you both have been a great resource for me for vitamins and supplements. i thought i would share this with you and get your opinions on this. i called nordic naturals for the Omega-3 today. and the lady there told me that for ADHD their research shows the more DHA than EPA has shown better results for kids with ADHD.
i told her i have heard and researched just the opposite. i was considering getting their Omega 3 liquid with lemon oil which has 450mg of EPA and 300 mg of DHA and giving it to my DS 3x a day. she suggested using their DHA formula which is 150 EPA and 500 DHA 3x a day. she said their research is showing that DHA is more important and would get better results.
what do you think? i'm a little confused now.
thanks!

John, I think it all depends on your childs age. Did she mention this? A younger child will probably require more DHA for brain developement. It also depends on what specific brain function you are targeting. Then, just when you think you have it all figured out you have to realize that each child is different and some will respond better to EPA than DHA. In my personal experience I think she gave you good advice. I know this product and its concentration, purity, etc. It is an excellent omega 3 to start with. I have gotten good results with this. The fact that it is molecularly distilled and pharmaceutical grade gives it an added boost. Either one would be a good choice. Whatever one you decide to go with you can get a better price through www.vnfnutrition.com than you could by ordering straight from nordic naturals.

John, a great deal really will depend on your child's individual response. I know that our attempts to use the higher DHA/lower EPA supplements have not been successful. We're currently using 480mg DHA and 720mg EPA daily and it works very well for us. The key seems to be providing sufficient DHA to meet immediate needs, while insuring there's enough EPA to continue to meet the body's demands between doses. The between-dose demands will likely depend upon the degree of deficiency you're dealing with. EPA is the immediate precursor to DHA, so very little synthesis is required. I'd cast my vote for the lemon oil version, based on our experience. However, I agree you'd be making a good choice with either product. I know OhMama is very careful about researching products so if she has confidence in this one's purity, it's pure. (After all, we now know she's a closet water radical, which leads me to believe her standards are high.)

One more vote: we use the Nordic Naturals Omega 3 with lemon oil that you were investigating and we're quite happy with it. One bonus is that the dose is only 1/2 tsp. Mixed into morning juice/(lemonade for us Feingolders), the boys don't even question it. One less battle... (LOL)
