One of my sons is complaining that his hands smell like the liquid inside the Omega 3 capsule he is taking. Is it possible that the capsules are causing an odor?

What brand/manufacturer are you using? Also, what amount or dose per day? Are you giving enough vitamin C and Vitamin E with this to prevent oxidation? Does he complain of fishy burps or aftertaste?
Last but not to be overlooked.... Is he washing his hands after taking/touching the suppliment?

We are using Neuro DHA - 2 capsules per day.
Vitamin C - he's taking 500-1000 mg/day during flu season.
Vitamin E - 60 IU's per day, plus whatever is in the Neuro DHA.
No fishy burps, and yes, he says he's washing, although I suspect (and hope) that the smell is somehow coming from handling the capsules.
Glad to see you back, Oh Mama.

Thanks, it's good to be back in the swing of things with all these familiar people such as yourself.
Both these antioxidant vitamins are necessary and I think you are doing fine with the Vitamin C dose. You may want to give more Vitamin E though. The Neuro DHA has only 2 IU per serving. Since the cell membrane is made mostly of fat, vitamin E stays in or near the cell membrane. There, it can use its antioxidant powers to reduce or even prevent the oxidation of the incorporated fatty acids. Vitamin C is also crucial, because it is water soluble. It is best at acting in the watery cytoplasm inside the cell, as well as in the mitochondria.
I would suggest the next time you are at the store getting some Vitamin E (natural mixed tocopherols) in the 100 IU per serving size and adding this to your treatment plan.
It would seem the real reason of it all could be the hand washing? I know if I'm not standing right there my boys will just run water over their hands and claim they washed them. The soap seems to slip their minds.

RE "Thanks, it's good to be back in the swing of things with all these familiar people such as yourself". It's nice to have you back ohmama. And isn't it funny how children can sometimes forget to use soap when washing their hands? You have to ask every time!!

Barry, It's always good to hear from you. How's your mom doing? I hope everything is alright and she will be out of the hospital soon. Think positive.

Ho ohmama. My mom is ok today. Yesterday she had an hour of tachycardia and angina that didn't respond completely to three shots of nitroglycerine. So she is now in cardiac supervisory care for assessment. They are hoping she has an attack in the hospital with all the monitors on, etc. She is 88 and hasn't been in a hospital since I was born (53 years ago). So all of this went fine, but discussing "end of life options" with the nursing staff took a bit of thinking / discussion. That was a bit stressful!!

The child in question is 15, so takes great offense to the suggestion that he just didn't wash his hands well. I agree with all of you about the strong possibility that this is what is happening, BUT I want to be able to say, "Omega 3 NEVER comes out your palms" or at least "Nobody on the forums has ever heard of Omega 3 making palms smell bad."
Barry, I wasn't aware of the things going on with your mom. She sounds like a strong woman - never been in the hospital! I join everyone else in praying that she has a speedy recovery!

Thanks so much adhdtimes4. I can't imagine what adhdtimes4 would be like. Some things are additive and some things are exponential. I have found adhdtimes1 to be quite enough. It's like having four people there anyway!!
I remember when my wife and I were courting (25 years ago!!) we used to joke about "these palms come in handy!!" It's just one of those corny jokes that people in love find incredibly funny. And it's amazing how men in that situation are able to use soap to clean themselves and remember the other things that their mothers told them!!
