I have found 2 no fish burp possibilities for a new fatty acid supplement and wanted opinions on them from our resident expert or anyone else who has an opinion.
MaxEPA has 1000 mg of Fish Oil, supplying 180 mg. EPA and 120 mg DHA. It also has 2 IU of Vit. E(as d-Alpha Tocopheryl Acetate.)
Fisol is an enteric-coated fish oil with 500 mg Fish oil providing 150 mg EPA and 100 mg DHA, along with 1 IU of Vit E. They claim that because it is enteric -coated and better absorbed, the required dosage is less than a non-coated fish oil.
Any thoughts on would one be better than the other, and on how many ds should take a day?

austinsmom- I like the sound of the MaxEPA simply because it contains precisely what I'm giving my son right now. They sound like identical supplements, except that mine definitely can cause fish burps in the unwary!
For my son, who is 9 and weighs 85 or 90 pounds, I give him 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening. Yes, that's a fair amount of fish oil, but through trial and error, it appears he needs to consume that much, at least right now. I backed it off to two capsules a day for 2 weeks and his behavior began slipping again (other reasons, too, but the fish oil contributed).
On the Fisol, I haven't tried this brand. Is the enteric coating something like a hard shell covering the squishy capsule? If so, check ingredients carefully for artificial flavors and colors. Even if they're not listed, if the bottle doesn't specifically say "contains no artificial flavorings, no artificial colors..." then I'd assume it contains them.
My experience with the enteric coated capsules was not good, because of the artificials issue. That aside...it ought to be the case that a smaller dose contained in enteric coating will have the same effect as the larger non-coated one would, since you won't be losing so much to digestion in the stomach. If it were me, I would still give my son 4 of these, however.
(The 480mg DHA appears to be a cut-off for effectiveness, according to research that's been done, but I've found that my boy needs the big boost of EPA as well to keep him making his own DHA. Your child may be more responsive to the fish oil or have less of a problem with deficiency, in which case you could give as few as 2 capsules a day of either supplement.)
By the way, the vitamin E contained in each of these oils is for anti-oxidant purposes, to prevent the oil from turning rancid. It is not intended as a supplement, nor is there enough in there to function as a supplement. You will still need to provide at least 100 IU vitamin E from other sources.
These both sound like very good fish oils (nice investigative work!) Did you find them on-line or at a local place?

I found them at a health food store, but plan to buy them online later. I find it easier to explore options when I can pick up bottles and read labels. (I know I could find that info online but somehow I like the hands on approach.) But I definately think everythings cheaper online, so that's where I stock up.
