Can anyone tell me how to use the Alka Seltzer Gold if you are planning a cheat on the FG diet? We decorate our tree today and havae some traditions that involve non-kosher foods, and I am planning a controlled cheat. Do you give the A. Seltzer after the food? How long? And what is the enzyme some people use? Thanks for the info.

I use the Alka Seltzer Gold as soon as possible after I know my son has eaten something that he's reacting to. I have found that on those occasions when I know almost immediately he's eaten forbidden items and can give the Alka Seltzer really soon, it has the best effect reducing the reaction.
We haven't used the digestive enzymes.

My dh will take AG before we eat out, just in case he gets ahold of something. The way it works is that it stops your body from absorbing the food (hence, you do not want to do this regularly) so if you take it before hand, it will help more. I get my enzymes (No Fenol) from www.houstonni.com. They've worked well to let us eat more fruits and veggies that we normally react to.

I bought mine at Walgreens. Some discount stores don't sell it (Target, Walmart) in my area. It is the Alka Seltzer without aspirin I believe, so it is safe for kids on the Feingold diet.

Walmart pharmacy has ordered it for me before. I think Drugstore.com carries it also.

I don't blame him. That stuff is horrible. Maybe add a little juice to it?

I used one tab and just used 2 oz water. But maybe the bad taste will encourage not cheating on the diet?? Just a thought.

It is gross stuff and my son hates it, too. I have him hold his nose and gulp it down, which he'll do, but it remains highly unpopular.

Well, we put lemonade syrup with it. That way, it tastes like 7up.
However, if they cheat and purposely eat something they're not supposed to, I'm under no 'obligation' to make it taste good! Straight AG!!
BTW, we have found that AG helps tremendously w/withdrawl stomache cramps.

I make lemonade syrup. It's very easy.
You can put the AG into 7up, but I noticed that it does not disolve well in stuff that's sugared. Works better to disolve in water, and add the syrup in afterwards.
Lemonade syrup
1 cup water 2 cups sugar 1 cup lemon juice
Bring water and sugar to a boil and let boil for 5 minutes without stirring. Let cool a little and stir in lemon juice. Pour about 1" into a tall glass and fill up with water.
