My son has always had problems with constipation. It has been years of exlax, enemas, and prune juice. Well since we have been using supplements one of them omega 3 he has had no problem. It is really great but I was just wondering because we have been to all kinds of doctors for this and they never really helped him. Thanks

When we first started on the supplements, my son had a real problem with getting the diarrhea. (He has always been very regular) Are you also giving magnesium? At first I thought it was the fish oil doing it but I lowered his magnesium dosage and it cleared up. As Cat explained it to me, magnesium can effect the bowels, as in "Milk of Magnesium." But I have also heard that alot of people can also get loose stools from taking Omega 3. For us it was a nuisance but it sounds like it was a blessing for you!
Take care Kimmers

Yes, from personal experience, I think omega 3 fatty acids do work that way!

Our experience with Omega-3 is that it has a gentle laxative effect, more noticeable when you first start taking it. Rather than an Ex-Lax type "gotta go NOW" effect, it's more that the stools are softer and more comfortable and come regularly. One of my boys has always had constipation troubles and no longer complains of bowel movements that hurt him.

Thanks for the response. I guess we should have been using this a long time ago. My son has had lots of problems and now he is very regular. He is still having some behavior problems but over all our experience with supplements have been so positive. It helps with things that you werent even trying to treat like for instance his constipation problem. You see before this he always had stool in his underpants well this caused a smell sometimes. I found myself bathing him constanly and buy new undies all the time. I was always worried about him being teased for smelling along with him having behavior problems at school. I am still working with him with going to the bathroom when he needs to because he is scared it will hurt from his experience before. He is getting used to it well anyway thank you all. And once again thanks Catatonic.
