Hey Cat,
I've been seeing your posts here & on the FG support list about how hard it is to keep your ds from cheating at school. For some reason, my kids were at me yesterday asking when when when could they eat candy, etc. again (we're in stage 1, & I'm trying to reduce sugar to see if it slows down my NON-challenged child's constant jumping).
Anyway, I had a thought this morning-- don't know if it's useful or if you'd tried it. You know how they say if you can't beat em join em-- how about if you become your son's *supplier* of "junk" & candy?
I was at our HFS the other day and they have all this gooey, chocolatey, yummy stuff that would qualify for FG. No corn syrup, no vanillin-- yes LOTS of chocolate & butter & sugar. Today I picked up caramels & sunspire drops, which are "colored", but are natural colors & FG approved. I thought it would ease the deprivation pangs my children had. Maybe if you bought enough that your son could dole it out to his friends he wouldn't feel like he was being deprived & had to cheat? Squirrel's Nest has some good looking goodies-- maybe he could choose his favorites? It might give him some ownership?
My HFS also has fruit punch & lemonade withOUT corn syrup or colors so I buy it by the gallon. (I don't buy the fruit punch right now, 'cause we're in stage 1).
Also bright orange mac n cheese & cheetos that are all naturally flavored & organic so they wouldn't use any bad annatto.
Some of this stuff is not on the FG food list, but none of the ingredients are on the 'bad' list so they seem ok. Also my son doesn't seem to react to them.
I'm considerably poorer after these FG shopping trips, but I figure if my kids feel really deprived they'll cheat for sure. The 'orange' food and fake m&ms make them feel like they're part of the in-crowd.
Now my kids are MUCH younger than your son so maybe none of this would work. But it was a thought and I thought I'd pass it along. I'm going to try it at home today.
