Can anyone on the FG Lifestyle tell me if chicken I bought at the store with 2-15% chicken broth or solution or retained water or a mixture of 2 or 3 of them is ok to use? I'm confused. One reply I received said retained water is ok and that solution or broth is not ok.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, on this our first FG lifestyle day! Thanks!

John - Good for you for embarking on FG. We've had very positive results with it. You're right to be careful, too. So many mysterious things are added to our food, it's kind of scary once you become aware of it.
You really are not supposed to use chicken at all if it says "solution added" or "broth added". The "retained water" is ok, though, as far as I know. (There are some very experienced Feingolders on this forum who can probably help you out better here.) Some people, once they've become established on FG, will experiment with things that appear "clean" and go ahead and use unapproved items if they don't provoke a reaction. Others don't experiment at all.
I experiment in a very limited fashion, and usually because I haven't been careful enough. For example, i checked the package on the chicken I cooked tonight (same kind I used 2 nights ago) and it says "2 - 15% chicken broth added to promote juiciness" or something of that sort. I didn't read the package carefully enough. The store was out of the regular type I buy, so I just grabbed something that looked okay. No reaction, so I guess there's nothing too awful in that broth, but I'll be more careful next time. Especially since we do NOT eat any MSG. Never. And the "broth" is often a mask for MSG that's been added.
It would seem advisable that until you've been following the diet for a minimum of 6 weeks, you need to be rigid about sticking to the food list. Maybe put the chicken in the freezer until then?

Thanks Catatonic. We do have a deep freeze. And that's where it is now. If we don't keep it, my neighbors next door have kids and could use it or I'll pass it on to my parents. Thanks for the advice, it's alway greatly appreciated!!!

My neighbors have benefitted greatly over the years! LOL! Every time we react to something, across the street it goes!
I would hold off on that meat too. It may be fine, but in general, you want to look for "Minimally processed." We just found out a couple of months ago that the store my inlaws shop at has been injecting their meat with corn syrup, which my kids cannot tolerate! That was a big old mystery solved!! I was livid.
Read those labels carefully, and make friends with the managers of stores. Really let them know what you want. Most of them will even order case lots of stuff they don't normally carry, if you'll buy the whole case.
