Normally, I hesitate to recommend single amino acids because their use can be so touchy and you can end up doing more harm than good. However, we have begun seeing really outstanding results with the use of DMAE (250mg daily). Here is an excerpt from "Excitotoxins" about DMAE:
"In one large study involving behavioral problems in children, it was found that DMAE supplementation reduced hyperactivity, increased attantion span, and reduced irritability in 76% of girls and 66% of boys. It may offer a better alternative than Ritalin in cases of attention deficit disorder."
DMAE stimulates the brain's production of choline. Studies show it also improves memory and improves mood. Because of the research Dr. Blaylock cites, and because we are seeing even further improvement by adding DMAE, I highly recommend including it in your bunch of vitamins.
Is anyone else using it? What kind of results have you seen?

Where do you find the DMAE?? I looked for it before trying Pedia-Calm and could not find it. Pedia-Calm has DMAE in it but only 50mg.

You need to use at least 200mg. I give 250mg because that's how much was in the only reasonably priced capsule I could find. (The others had 350mg or more, and I worried that might be too high a dose.) I use the "Now" brand and I buy it on-line from www.herbaladvisor.com where it is around $5.50 for 100 capsules. This is less than half the $11.99 my health food store charges.

Cat-
Is this a capsule that is swallowed? After reading your post I am considering adding it to my son's regimen. Also, I have never ordered anything online. I don't even possess a credit card (how, you ask, in this day in age?) and I really don't plan to get one on the near future. (Too easy to get caught up in overspending) Does the herbal advisor take debit cards?? I am buying everything currently through my local pharmacy and also through GNC but dang, GNC is expensive! Thanks

Kimmers - Sounds like smart money management strategy to me. I learned my lesson the HARD way, but that's another story... The Herbal Advisor takes phone orders. You can use your debit card if you phone in your order. The phone number is 1-800-688-2375. Probably easiest to look on-line first so you know exactly what you want. They're pretty good about providing all the label information, so it's almost as good as actually holding the bottle in your hand. They're at www.herbaladvisor.comIf you do a pretty big order once every couple months, you can spread the shipping around over several items so it isn't so bad.

Hey Catatonic, I took your advise and ordered DMAE from the website you mentioned, Herbal Advisor.com, but I do have a question. Do you have a problem with incredibly slow shipping or am I just special?? I ordered it last Thurs. They took out payment for it on Friday. Here it is next Thurs. and my order still has not been shipped. Is this normal?? They are making me very angry because I am anxious to get this started and I can't get it. Thanks

Well, I would have to rate Herbal Advisor's shipping as "erratic". My most recent order arrived about 6 days from time order was placed to time it was delivered. The one before that, however, took nearly 2 weeks. That seems par for the course with them. Erratic. It can be aggravating.

Well, I called and talked to them on the phone today. It seems that the DMAE I ordered online last Thurs. is on back order and it will be two weeks before they even get it. However they did already get there payment the day after I ordered it. I emailed them earlier this week to check on the status of my order and recieved an email back saying that my order was being processed, not that it was on back order. So, I have cancelled my order with them and found it here in town. So........ Had I been told this before there would not be a problem.

This sounds like an appropriate dose. Have you tried vitamins both with and without the DMAE? I am curious what results you've noticed from the DMAE.

I noticed a diferent when he stopped his crewable vitmines and went to the combo that he is on now. I think even though the chewable did not say red dye that it had it in there. I just wish this helped my son enough to stop all his meds. We have not reach that point yet. It has been a really help in the evening he is not so hyper but attention is lacking. Kelly

Does anyone know how long it takes to notice a difference when starting DMAE? My son started it on Thurs.

About four weeks ought to give you an indication of whether or not it is working. DMAE can apparently take about 6 months to reach full potency in the brain, so you may not be seeing FULL effects for that long, but you ought to be seeing SOME effects within a month.
We haven't been using it long enough to form a real sense of how or how well it works. My impression at this point is that it impacts hyperactivity but hasn't seemed to do a lot for attention span at this point. (Attentiveness is our BIG stumbling block here.)
