I have been using supplements for my son. I took him off of concerta all together and I have had alot of help from people out here on how to use supplements. They do help it is just really slow. I have also tried to feed him different foods. I havent gotten the feingold food list yet but I am trying to read labels. We went to the doctor yesterday and I told him about what I am doing. When I told him I stopped the concerta he almost hit the celing. He told me all of this natural stuff is a waste of time and I would be going back to meds real soon. He said feingold is a waste and I dont agree. My son got in the conversation with the doctor and told him he liked his new pills they made him feel it was better. I see changes and I am not even using the diet all the way. It takes alot more work to use supplements I see. I give my son more omega and I see a difference now he is a little more in control. His teacher put him back in the group I know this was hard for him since he is not on meds. Some kids didnt want him back in it but I told him to work real hard anyway. (kids can be cruel) I guess I just need support so I dont feel like I am crazy for trying this. I dont know what to believe sometimes I mean you are supposed to be able to trust doctors right? Can we? Please respond if you have an opinion on this. Thanks

That means that that doctor doesn't believe that it's possible to treat ADHD with non-pharmaceutical remedies.
I'd suggest looking into finding a different doctor if he isn't open to what you think is working.

Hi Baby, I'm sorry to hear about what your doc said. It makes me very angry that it is so common for docs (especially in Western medicine but not only) to simply blow off the opinions of their patients. It is VERY common too as I've heard the same kinds of comments about Feingold from lots of different kinds of professionals. My doc was a little better, he told us that Feingold does work in very rare cases but that we could go ahead and try it and it couldn't hurt. Well I wish I had some stats about it because it seems to me that while not all people get results to the EXTENT that they are looking for...EVERYONE who tries it is helped some, and many (like me) A LOT. Anyway I'm rambling here...GET RID OF THAT JERK DOCTOR!!! How dare he treat you like that for simply trying to do the best and healthiest thing you can for your kid! If you aren't comfortable with changing docs right now...you can always choose not to listen to him. After all you know what they say about opinions...and until that doc has had these problems with his OWN kid, and researched every possible solution and gone to the ends of the Earth to do the most natural and safe treatment then that's all he's got! Sorry but I'm very passionate about this. Too many people are mistreated and disrespected by the very docs who have promised to " Do no harm". I did Feingold on my own, found it on my own and my kid who was kicked out or 2 day cares and one K school is now a star student and a joy to be around...if I had listened to the "experts" Lord knows where we would be right now. You just hang in there and be strong and don't let anyone mess with Mama bear!

Your doctor is as brainwashed as most of them out there. We're living in the era of practicing medicine via drug rep, so what can you expect?
Next time, why not tell him about the new Harvard Med School study showing diet/supplements to be AS EFFECTIVE AS RITALIN. (Yeah, yeah, it's a small sample and all that, but it's a start. Nobody pays for this kind of research. Drug companies cough up megabucks for the pro-med research.)
My own father, who's spent a lifetime conducting medical research at a major university, thinks the Feingold diet is baloney (and, incidentally, that I'm a flake). But I know it works. I know I'm right on this. So are you. Ignore the stupid doctor.

babtay - stick with what your doing. If you notice changes and your son notices changes - that is what matters. Although we use meds - both our pediatricion and neuropsychologist DO believe that natural alternatives are valid! So stick with what you feel is the best alternative and know that just because he is a doctor doesn't mean he is right.
Catatonic is right: More and more doctors are doing less research and listening to what is being fed to them by the drug companies.
