SW Mom,
My son was on Strattera for 7 months. We were very happy with it, felt it addressed symptoms well without using a stimulant. Until.....about the 5th month, when we started having problems. First stomach problems, then increasing anger, which turned into a crisis point with an incredibly overwhelming episode with irrational rage which had my searching on the internet for help. Which is where I saw messages from other parents about Strattera and anger. I had not made that connection at all. We've been off for a week and I can't begin to tell you how much better he is. Of course we have started the FG diet also. But I feel compelled to tell other parents: watch closely for side effects. Not just at first, but ones that gradually creep up on you over time. I'm not trying to discourage you from using Strattera since it is working for you. Just tuck this away in the back of your mind in case someting comes up later. Best of luck.

Crillmom, there's no reason to believe any of the vitamin or Omega-3 supplements can't be used with meds. The only thing I'd look into before using if you're already doing meds is the amino acids. Some of them will interact, some won't.

catatonic -
Where did you find the 6mg of magnesium per pound of body weight? When I looked on the daily intakes chart on the internet, they say 240mg max for a girl 9-12. But she weighs 65 lbs. Not sure which figure to use and want to make sure I'm giving her the right amount of magnesium.
Thanks for the help!

swmom - I got my magnesium dose information from Laura Stevens' book "12 Effective Ways to Help Your ADD/ADHD Child". (An excellent resource, one I recommend everyone have a copy of!)
In her discussion of correcting a magnesium deficiency, she explains the Cvostek test to determine magnesium deficiency, and she also explains how to calculate dosage: "Multiply your child's weight by six, and that's the amount of supplemental magnesium, in milligrams, to try." (Stevens, p.103)
It's also discussed, with the same recommendation, in Dr. Leo Galland's book "Superimmunity for Kids".

OK - we're now combining Strattera(30mg in the a.m., 10 in the afternoon) with the following:

Sorry, I must've hit the post button by accident...anyway, here's the rest: strattera with the following: a multivitamin that has 100% of daily intakes for the B-vitamins, vitamin E, zinc, in addition to various amounts of all the other important stuff; Solaray's Cal-Mag Citrate with Vitamin D, which is basically 1000mg of calcium(calcium citrate) and 500 mg of magnesium(magnesium oxide and magnesium citrate) and vitamin D(200 IU) per serving which is 6 capsules. So, we started this morning with just one capsule to see how she does. Will gradually increase to I guess 6 times her body weight for the mag which would be 390mg., unless that's too much calcium. I'll have to do the math. In addition, we started this morning with Nordic Naturals Complete Omega Liquid. (So expensive!) We'll start with 1/2 tsp. in the a.m. and the p.m. and work up from there to 480mg. a day of the DHA. I'm making notes daily to see if we notice any changes in her behavior, sleep, frustration level, anxiety, emotional lability, etc. At 6 weeks, we'll decide whether it's working or not. Has anyone seen results sooner than that? I think I read where someone had, just can't remember who posted that.
Anyway, a HUGE THANKS to everyone who posted their experiences on this thread. Big help.
We'll report our findings. Hopefully, we'll have something positive to report soon!
