I am having to start a gluten free diet with our younger son. He has been having diarhea and losing weight and could have celiac disease.. I am looking for anyone who is on a gluten free diet and might have some recipes or something.. thanks!!!
Also there can be some behavioral effect frrom this and it runs in families.. so I am concidering putting all of us on the diet depending on how the little guys tests work out

Hi Sorka, I know of a Mom who did this and she has successfully stopped the gluten/casein free by using enzymes. If you are interested in getting in touch with her to talk about going gluten free and/or using enzymes I can probably get you two hooked up. Please e-mail me at archibos@mscd.edu if you interested in talking to her. She has done it all when it comes to diet!

Thanks Sarah, This is for more of a pure medical reason than behaviour.. the gluten is possibly causing a toxic reaction in my son's small intestine.. basically what happens is is flatted those little finger like protusions in there called Villi.. those make the inner surface of the small intestine 'larger' more surface area to absorb nutrients.. so if those are flattened by the body's reaction to gluten the nutrients are not absorbed and the person can become malnourished.. This can however effect behaviour and cause some ADHD like symptoms.. due to the nutritional malsorption.. But it is something that is unfortunately not going to be helped by ensymes, but only by a gluten free diet!

Well went to the doc this morning and we are keeping the little guy on the gluten free diet for now.. the doc is going to look over some stool tests we had done a while back and mabye check for parasites, then reintroduce wheat.
I am wondering what will happen.. Apparently gluten intolerance can cause behavioural problems as well.. so I am really interested to see if that is what is going on with my oldest.. Strtattera does not seem to be working that well. There are a few people on the celiac boards who have seen great improvement on a Gf diet.. don't know waiting it out!

Hello! I have a dear friend who has celiac disease and suspects her DS11 has it too. She has found great resources online for recipes, food lists, and message boards. Another site is www.celiac.com/. Her son is ADHD and is medicated. I have heard of links connecting ADHD and celiac disease. She goes to the oriental food store to buy rice noodles cheaper than a regular grocery. She has made some great things with rice flour. I hope you get an accurate diagnosis and quick relief for your son. God bless you and your family. Lori

Thank you Iofo, I have been to that web site you mentioned and they all have said there is a link from celiac to behaviour. My son is on Strattera right now but it does not seem to be doing anything. The OT does not see a difference and recently when I missed a dose there really was no difference.. although it is built up in his system at this point after 6 weeks.. I will stick it out to the end of this month but unsure beyond that. Any information you can get to me is appreciated! DLayman

If you give me your email she said she would forward you her resource list which has alot of info she has gathered. She has had celiac disease for a few years and suspects it in her ADD (or ADHD) boy.
