I got this in an email today and I thought I would share it.
A Cherokee elder was teaching his grandchildren about life. He said to them, "A fight is going on inside me... it is a terrible fight, and it is between two wolves.
One wolf represents fear, anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other stands for joy, peace, love, hope, sharing, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, friendship, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.
This same fight is going on inside you, and inside every other person, too."
They thought about it for a minute and then one child asked his grandfather "Which wolf will win, grandfather?"
The old Cherokee simply replied... "The one you feed."

What's sad is to think of all the people in our lives we have seen turn from one wolf into the other.

Ralph; Great Email!!! It is helpful to see all people that way so that we can move along in our everyday lives knowing that. Hope all is well with your family and have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Christina

RE "The other stands for joy, peace, love, hope, sharing, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, friendship, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith."
I often talk to my Sunday School class of teenagers about the fruits of the spirit that St. Paul mentions in Galations. Many of them are the same as the above list -- love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, faithfulness, kindness, humility and self-control.
The opposite of the fruits are things like hate, sadness, war or hostility, impatience / hurry or stress, badness / evil, doubt, cruelty, pride or conceit and recklessness / addiction. They are like the other wolf.
I combine a discussion of these fruits with looking at the first chapter of Genesis, the twenty-third psalm and the Lord's prayer.
Thanks for sharing --
Barry
