OK, well, it's not too big of a deal, at least to some, but I have gotten through to at least one child. Not mine mind you, but at least I got through.
Mikey and another VERY HYPER boy (he has other issues too and his uncle is about ready to kill him, the kid is that "bad") were sledding yesterday with a couple other kids. Well, Mikey and this boy were keeping each other occupied quite nicely, UNTIL I heard Mikey crying. Well, this other little boy came walking back up the hill with a little "not taking nothing" attitude, so I asked him what was going on. He told me he hit Mikey cause Mikey hit him first.
OK, Mikey came up the hill and said the little boy wasn't sharing nicely and wouldn't give him the sled. OK, I told them both to sit on the wagon without talking, right next to each other. Well, I turned around and they were talking, BUT, they were talking about being nice to each other and playing fair.
THEY APOLOGIZED TO EACH OTHER
No prompting, no lectures, they just did it all on their own. The night before I made this other boy apologize to his sister(a few times until he meant it, with his mom sitting there making sure he meant it.)
I had told him he better behave because I don't put up with that kind of crap you'll either say it AND mean it or you'll say it and mean it( don't give him an option). Well, I guess it sank in quicker than I thought.
I gave him respect, he's gonna give it back. Oh yeah, they played fine the rest of the day.
Like I said, no big deal for some, but this kid is a doozy, and he smiled at me after we had gotten back inside. Usually he's running around like a little wild child from
h-e-double hockey sticks.
I think I have found my purpose too.
