My ds has been in karate for about 6 months. He just got his orange belt last week 
. There was a tournament today. He was so nervous. He forgot part of his kata (routine) but he did really well. He also participated in the sparring. He won second in kata and first in sparring ;D. My ds just turned 5, hes 40lbs and about 42 inches. He is small. He sparred with 2 kids, both a lot bigger than he was and he won (first to 5 points). We were so proud of him. He got 2 big trophys. He was smiling ear to ear when he went up to accept them. It was a real confidence booster for him.
