What would a child be like if they had a dx of "mild" bipolar disorder? Obviously there's mild, moderate, severe, just like for ADHD. My ds9 has MORE than his dx of severe ADHD/ODD...I just KNOW it. I know, I'm reaching here, but there's something else wrong and I don't know what it is. Of course, we, as parents, end up having to dx our own children and half the time we have to recommend the proper meds, too. I hate playing doctor!

Trust your instincts and read up on bipolar. A good web site with lots of info is www.bpkids.org/index.html My 14 yr old dd just got diagnosed with BP in January. After I read up on the warning signs, I knew we needed to set up an appointment with a child psychiatrist ASAP. We got a quick diagnosis and felt very happy with the pdoc. It has taken some trial and error with several prescription changes, but things are better now! (((hugs))). Take care!

savvymom, you go girl!!! you beat me to it!!the bp kids site has great info. strugglingagain, i think considering a mood disorder is important. you dont have to really decide whether it is bipolar or depression, mild or severe. but i would speak to the dr about considering a mood stabilizer and skip the stims.

Oh my god, this site is wonderful.. I have discovered alot of useful info here... I know with what to finally speak to his docs about trying to dx my ds with.... I am now finding out how much stims can counterreact with his problems by making them worse. I am definitely staying on the phone tommorrow till I find a darn good psych for him

Thanks for the link, I will add this to my research post. Again, there are lots of overlaps of symptoms. Now I know why Dr's can get so confused with a diagnosis. They may think they need to treat ADHD, but actually it might be Bi-polar, depression, anxiety, mild autism, touretts, sensory integration.... What have I gotten myself into Miles:D
