Does anyone who is a member here have MS?
Does anyone here have a family member who has MS?
Many of the symptoms of ADD are consistent with symptoms often found in MS (ADHD, not so much).
I say this not to be alarming but to encourage a careful examination of a progression in symptoms, which may indicate that ADD is the peripheral diagnosis, while MS may be closer to home.
By all means, read and learn and study, don't be disturbed by this suggestion ...
But if you do have MS, or have a family member with MS, and the diagnosis is confirmed, please consider sharing, to inform others ...

We don't have anybody with MS but both my father and grandfather(passed away now) have parkinsons disease. With Levi having ADD and RLS I worry about him getting parkinsons---just because of the link concerning dopamine levels in the brain. I worry about getting it myself but not as much as I do for my son--just because we both have very strong traits that follow my dads side.

Did you know there are four types of ms?
relapsing / or remitting MS(sometimes called hidden) ...attack could be or be years apart. Benign ms ...doesn't worsen with time and is less severe Secondary progressive ms... is like no 1 but it gets progressively worse and disableing later Primary Progressive... has a lack of attacks with slow steadily worsing symbtons.
About 3 out of 5 patients who come down with TN between the ages of 30-35 have MS in the light form atleast. The nuerologist was very frank with me about this subject 12 yrs ago. Read my reply in the "here we go again" thread in the general non adhd category if you want to know more. (my back spasm just didnt happen because of the rug) I can list all the symptoms by heart but I dont want to scare anyone. I cant remember ever being diagnosed add or adhd as a kid but they didn't do that back then so much. Yes it scares me.

After a long night of laying awake and wandering if MS and my childs adhd add could be related or mis diagnosed (and feeling extremely guilty if so) I have come to the conclusion that NO it isn't. There are some common factors but not enough to cause any alarm. Lack of concentration and forgetfulness are pretty much it and we can all attribute those things to just about everything in life. When it comes to MS I have read learned and studied till I am blue . While they are both nuerological disorders I dont think they are that closely related that they could really be confused. (unless you have a really bad doctor ) I am not saying this has not happened to an individual out there somewhere . If you have info please share.
MS Symptoms may range from mild to severe :
Numbness or tingling of legs, arms, face or extremities.
Impaired vision one or both eyes ..blurred,double,loss of vision
Pain around affected eye
Fatigue
Dizziness
Muscle stiffness
muscle spasms
Muscle weakness
poor coordination or falling
trouble walking or maintaining balance
Paralysis in one or more limbs
Dropping things lack of hand control
Bladder problems.. Urgency , Hesitancy, Incomplete emptying, Incontinence,
Bowel problems.. contstipation
Sexual dysfunction
slurred speech
difficulty swallowing
forgetfulness..memory loss, and confusion
trouble concentrating or solving problems
depression
Things that may trigger or worsen symptoms:
Heat...hot baths or showers, hot weather fever overexertion infection

The only thing I can add is- I have a dear friend who has MS- she has been taking Adderall for a very long time to help with focus. I understood that MS affects the brain in a similar was as ADD can affect you. The Adderall was used to aid in that. Now she is being weened off it because of a cardiac situation - and they are not sure how the Adderall may have contributed to it. I will pass on any new info that I find out.

You make a good point about the focus symptoms with ms. I feel for your friend..like I said focus and forgetfulness are some of the symptoms .. I think that when you get 10-15 of the symptoms going at once it really is hard to stay focused on all the day to day stuff period . It's a shame the cardiac condition stopped her use of adderall. I hope she comes out of the cardiac problems okay...the ms problems are bad enough without other complications. I have never thought of MS as just a focus problem .(just my way of thinking I guess) I hope your friend is doing okay.
